There was a whole episode on Maude where she got a face lift! I always thought Rue looked much older in Maude!

Rue was costumed and made up to look at least ten years older than her actual age at the time.  Allegedly done to make her and Bea look like they may have actually been college friends, which was mentioned several times in the series.

The trick in the facelift episode of Maude was that Vivian told everyone she was going on a trip, but was actually getting her own facelift, which caused Maude to consider one for herself. The makeup team used old Hollywood tricks to pull Bea's face back, and put a ton of makeup on her to make her look more youthful.

In any event, it seems as though I have read or heard things about each cast member (minus Betty White) having things done here or there, be it a lift or a chemical peel while The Golden Girls was in production.
