ist" are not interchangeable.
And to answer the question, yes, but it should. If it didn't, I would have been disappointed. I saw it last week and I thought it was glorious. I definitely want to see it again.
I always think it's interesting when people accuse South Pacific of being a racist show; Hammerstein's work is historically known for taking on a really strong political and social consciousness, and he was very, very adamant about condemning racial and ethnic prejudices in his writing. So, while in order to show the evils of those things, you obviously need to write characters who
are racist, just having characters who think that way doesn't make the entire show a racist piece. It deals with racism. It doesn't promote it.
