Posted: 1/15/19 at 10:17amIm just wondering if there has ever been the honour of dimming the lights of broadway for someone for more than one day or is there a fixed amount of time in minutes or hours or whatever. And if there has been someone honored for more than a day what was the longest time period and for who. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, it is only for a few minutes.

"Nobody knows when this tradition began, but I came across a New York Times article reporting that “Broadway was blacked out” for lyricist Oscar Hammerstein on Sept. 1, 1960. It was the first time Broadway had gone dark since World War II, the paper noted. A crowd of 5,000 bowed their heads in Duffy Square, and two musicians who worked on Hammerstein’s shows played taps."

I always thought it was only for 1 minute. I remember reading this NYT article though back a few years ago:
