Just to clear the air.

On the Beauty and the Beast thread, I said, "No need to worry" and "Disney knows what it's doing"...I was talking about making Beauty and the Beast a financial success, after a poster's complaint that the film was given a March release date. I, along with other posters cited the recent Cinderella film as an example of a financially successful Disney film released in March. To further the point that Disney is smart with making financial successes (for the most part), I cited Maleficent and Into the Woods. I finished by saying "Absolutely no need to worry"; I meant this intending to say there is no need to worry about the March release date.

I then went on to say it is up to the creative team to make an artistically successful film...I said that the casting for the film was perfect so far (my opinion).

I then finished by saying that if one enters a film thinking that it will end up being "crap", then that is how he/she will feel. Which I think is true. And I think especially true for screen adaptations, because as fans, we know what we like, and we may be protective of the material and yadda yadda yadda....that was just something I thought needed to be addressed in the abstract, not to any particular poster. I never called anyone a "Negative Nancy" or a pessimist merely for not being stoked for something like I am.

Yes, I like to be excited for stuff, and these fantasy films or stage to screen films usually please me so I like to hope for the best.

Just thought I'd clear the air on that one. Carry on! Disney Developing Live-Action Adaptation of MULAN!

Now, as for Whinnie the Pooh....I'll give it a shot! I'll admit, maybe I was too quick to judge on that one! I'll wait to see the creative team, and see if more details arise.

I'm a huge Disney fan and I'm all for making live action adaptations of their classic films. But only if done right. I feel that BATB is actually the first time they seem to get it. In all the other projects they they took out the best things.

For example, in Maleficent they took out the exact aspects that could have made it special. The music, the rivalry between Philip and Maleficent, she does everything in her power to keep him away from the castle, and now she's helping him getting there? wtf? That's like Gaston doing everything he can to bring Belle and the Beast together. Or Cinderella's stepmother bringing the key to her room, because the doesn't want her to be late for the shoe fitting, or Ursula doing everything she can to get Eric to kiss Ariel.

In Cinderella, they took out the glorious music and the film looked nice, but it was quite bland to me, generic.

Why not go all the way? So include the music, the story and the tension.

I understand that they don't want an exact copy of the animated film, but the changes lie in little things, lyrics, dialogues, scenes. Making them more suitable for live action. Imagine what the could have done with "Sing sweet nightingale" for example. The changes shouldn't be based on desperately taking out the best parts, which is what they have done until now.

Are we really "clearing the air" with page-long diatribes about debates/arguments over Disney's creative future and artistic aesthetic?!?! Damn. It's Disney. A global corporation. All of this discussion is irrelevant. If a live-action remake of WINNIE THE POOH is going to make them hundreds of millions of dollars, they're going to do it. They probably couldn't care less what Disney junkies, who are probably well into their 30's or 40's, think. You all are not their target market. You're not the ones buying multiple movie tickets for the family or buying merchandise for your child. The exchange in this thread between you all is astonishing.

I think a live action version of the Mulan legend is a good idea.

They need some diversity in their current slate of live action remakes.

....but the world goes 'round

Dave19, to be fair, "Sing Sweet Nightingale" was sung in the new Cinderella during a scene where Ella was doing her chores. Granted, there weren't floating bubbles, but it was there. Also, "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" and "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" were performed during the end credits. Disney Developing Live-Action Adaptation of MULAN!

I still think it would've been adorable if Cinderella and Kit danced to an instrumental version of "So This Is Love" during the ball sequence.

Do you think they'll actually get an actress of Chinese decent?

It literally says that they will in the article.

My bad, I have a bad habit of not reading anything. And the two un-chinese dream casts above me also threw me off.

They are supposedly conducting a global search to find an unknown Chinese actress to play Mulan.

It's good that they're shooting for an unknown actress, but I was really pulling for Ziyi Zhang. I think she's mesmerizing onscreen.

How does everyone think the Sony version will compare? https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Director-Ang-Lee-Passes-on-Disneys-Live-Action-MULAN-Rival-Pic-in-the-Works-at-Sony-20161013

Considering that the article states that the Disney version will feature an all-Asian cast while Sony's version will reportedly feature a "predominantly Asian cast."

It's already been confirmed to not have any songs, as well as none of the original characters from the animated movie.

You probably wouldn't want Donnie Yen singing anyway.

There's also a Chinese version of Mulan from a few years ago that's worth checking out, with Vicky Zhao Wei and Jackie Chan's son.
