HERCULES....it is screaming to be on stage!

I think it's great that Dinsey is producing another musical that isn't based on one of their animated movies. Especially one that has Andrew Lippa's involvement! I'm truly looking forward to that production.

Thank you BwayBaby18, Hercules needs to be on stage. It's a chance for Disney to keep up their record of Disney Dazzle! Regardless of quality...

I would love to see Newsies or Hercules, and I'm still waiting for them to bring over Der Glockner...it is allready translated and everything!

Why have they been so reluctant to bring Hunchback?
The music lends itself so easily to the stage.

How were the reviews when it played in Germany?

I made a stage version of Enchanted at my school last month, it turned out pretty well.

Hercules would be cool. That's a good movie. It might need more songs. As for Nightmare, that's probably one of my favorite movies, but I would not want to see it on stage. Enchanted would be awesome!!

They already did the Hercules musical on their cruise ship. Look up Hercules the Muse-ical on Youtube.

Dumbo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I am kidding, that would be interesting. I doubt it would work though. They would have to build in dialogue and songs for Dumbo, and it just wouldn't be the same. But the special effects for him flying could be interesting.

How exactly is Disney "shoving another musical down our throats?" I don't understand what that means. That's what Disney Theatrical does - they produce Broadway shows.

Look at all the tens of millions of people who have gone to the theatre and had a wonderful time. Not to mention all the actors, writers, musicians, crew, theatre personnel who have had jobs for all of these years.

Hercules.

Please. Bring it on!

-- "with kate shindle as meg?!"

That's an amazing suggestion, into_the_woods2 ! I think Ms. Shindle would be fantastic as Meg.

"Why have they been so reluctant to bring Hunchback?"

Word was that it was too dark. It was much darker than the movie which was also condisdered too dark to begin with. They made Quasimodo's character darker and more complex and completely changed the ending. I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say Disney was not too happy. It was acutally much closer to the novel than the movie was.

But I've heard time and again that Disney figured it was no longer appropriate for family audiences in America. Hmf. I heard that they would produce it on Broadway so long as they changed the ending to make it happy like the movie, but the creative team wouldn't budge so nothing happened.

If I didn't get the facts right or there is an update I'm not aware of, please let me know. I know a lot of people are interested in this even though Disney may want to just forget about it.

I'm very happy that the creative team didn't compromise the ending of the stage version of Hunchback. Disney is ridiculous for not putting this show on Broadway. It is loads better than Hercules ever would be, or any of the shows that they currently have running on Broadway. Let's hope they change their mind at some point.

Amen to that. The German production didn't have the Disney look to it. It didn't have that gimicky, bright and colorful, giddy romp feel. It could stand on it's own as a really fantastic musical that just so happens to be produced by Disney. Sadly, I don't think that's going to happen. Either it's just done or they'll completely destroy it.

I watched a bootleg of it. I loved it. They can even keep it in German and I would still cry over it!

I heard Aladdin was in the works. Not sure of the time frame and I doubt it will be next but it is on it's way.
