I enjoy most Disney movie-musicals and loved Beauty and the Beast on Broadway but thought The Lion King was ok (amazing costumes). And *dont shoot me* I hated Aida.

Final Reviews:
Beauty and the Beast: *** (out of four)
Lion King: **1/2
Aida: *

What did you guys think of the Disney Broadway musicals?

I like them, but I don't like the casting in most shows...IE, Christy Carlson Romano as Beatuy just because she's popular fromt eh disney channel, so they would sell more tickets.

Was that a fat joke?

Didn't see AIDA!I wish SOOO BADLY that I had though! From the CD-*** out of 4

Lion King- it's amazingly impressive, but there was barely any talent when I saw it. They do that cus they know they can get away with it, because of the reputation it has. The elaborit sets and costumes cover up the bad talent.

B&B- One of(if not the) my fav. Disney movies! So, of course I LOVE it! Althogh, it was more amazing before they down sized it.

I think all of these shows were good ideas that got violently commercialized and destroyed...eeks. Cant say I enjoyed them. The Lion King put me to sleep -- gorgeous visuals, really nothing more. Also the cast was extremely weak - obviously they dont take too much care in casting replacements because they know the show will do fine no matter what.

AIDA was my favorite show, problems, flaws and all. I doubt that given that bias, I'm really equipped to properly rate it, because I'd try to give it higher than it deserved.

I saw both TLK and BATB many years ago, and don't remember either of them all that well. But, it sort of bothers me when people say that they hated them and they put them to sleep, or that the shows are just like the movie and that's terrible. If you're going into these shows thinking that you're going to see something dramatically different from the movie, that's kind of naive; and when you DO see a reincarnation of the movie, it's even more naive and dense to complain about that. Obviously these shows aren't theatrical masterpieces, but I really think that (especially with TLK and BATB) we need to take them for what they're worth; they're meant to draw in families and bring kids to the theatre... isn't that what they're doing?

Sorry for the rant; I just get kind of sick of this.

I TOTALLY agree with you luvtheEmcee! We're some of the only ppl that are going to critizise the talent. One a lot of kids see these shows, they'll want to do it. Those kids are the ones that will save Bway, lets hope! And hope tht they save it in a good way!

God that was sappy! sorry!

I saw TLK over the summer and was disappointed because like Emcee said I was expecting to see much more then just a duplication of the movie. Part of that reason is that I had the CR for years and it so beautiful. That didn't translate on stage. There was SO much spectacle that not much substance showed. Circle of Life was fabulous, and I will admitt, it made me cry. After that it went downhill. Maybe if I went in with execpting it to serve its purpose - bring The Lion King to the stage and getting kids introduced to Theatre I would have enjoyed it more. I give it 2 out of 4 stars.

Aida - what can I say I loved it. I acknowledge its flaws, but still loved it. The music, the story, the sets. 3 and a half out of 4.

I saw BATB and LK (Original Cast) years ago, I must have been 7 or 8. That said, I don't remember much of either, except "Be Our Guest" and that a Hyena "bit" my seat. I loved them, but I probably wouldn't have the same opinion of them today, so I don't see me rating them correctly.

I never saw Aida, and the only things I know stem from select sceens from the opera, and having heard "My Strongest Suit" It never overly appealed to me when it was open, but now I'd be more than happy to give it a chance.

I think that TGIF had it right. I wanted to see so much more than a duplication of the movie. I believe the Lion King does it more than Beauty on account of how many new songs there were. But I saw The Lion King and was impressed by the sets, costumes, and one actors portrayl of scar thats it.

I loved beauty & the beast, costumes, sets, songs, everything.

Aida, great story, awesome singing, good costumes, but looks like they spent too much money on some sets and not enough on others (lots of backdrops)

never saw lion king, dont really want to, but the cartoon wasnt my favorite either.

My school did Beauty and the Beast and it was so much fun! Its a 3. Not my favorite show to see but i loved being in it.

I've seen The Lion King on B'way and in CHicago and it was really good...i actually liked it better in Chicago! Its a 3.

Aida gets a 4 because i saw the orginal cast on B'way and it was amazing!

I remember seeing the Lion King at the Pantages and it had great costumes and visuals and the company numbers were pretty impressive but overall I can't say I was that moved or thrilled by it. Aida, and Beauty and the Beast I havent seen but from what I've heard from Aida, I love it. Don't know much about B and the B but I agree that Christy Carlson Romano as Belle can't be that good. I've heard her sing numerous times and frankly she just doesnt impress me that much but that's just me.

Alright, I have a couple things to say... again. LOL.

Both LK and BATB had been two of my favorite movies when I was little. The thing that I like about LK and BATB is that they allow me to revisit the movies that I loved but haven't seen in ages. I LIKE that they're duplicates of the movies and I don't think changing them would work. I mean, I was constantly like, "OMG, I forgot that part in the movie but I remember it now!" You're probably very right about the casting. I actually never saw either LK or BATB on Broadway. I saw LK in Chicago, and thoroughly enjoyed it (the cast was fine... Timon and Pumba didn't do much for me, though). BATB I saw a Marriott Theater near Chicago that I have season tickets to. As a result, it was well casted (I'd seen a lot of the cast members in other shows at that same theater). I personally LOVED BATB. I mean, I didn't want intermission to come is how much I loved it... I dunno why. I just did. At any rate, they're both good family shows.

As for Aida, I'm listening to the soundtrack right now (and falling in love with Adam Pascal, lol...). re: Disney shows...hate 'em or love 'em?

I still consider, 6 years after seeing it for the first time, 'Beauty and the Beast' to be one of the most perfect musicals I've ever seen.

Lion King has some very nice design work going on. That said...
Two thumbs up for Aida and two big thumbs down for Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. Blech.
