Posted: 5/17/07 at 4:36pmI don't think Kristin will perform. I would love for her to (but to do that song from the first act, not Gorgeous), but I seriously doubt she will. Not that I would blame her.

I would be very surprised if Cheno performs--she might tho--if they need to fill some time...
They used to do snippets from the plays but the last time I recall was when KING HEDLEY was nominated and Viola Davis did a monologue...but I still remember inflection-by-inflection, Maggie Smith's scene from LETTICE AND LOVAGE--unreal...

What song from the 1st act?
You mean "What makes me love him?"
Anyways, I really hope she performs "Gorgeous"!
"I know some plays have; not sure about musicals"
How did these plays perform?
As far as I know only musicals perform at the Tony Awards.

Posted: 5/17/07 at 4:45pm"What Makes Me Love Him"! That's it! I love that song, more than Gorgeous. But I know that if she does perform she's probably do Gorgeous.

Her "Gorgeous" was underwhelming, yet her "What Makes Me Love Him" was profoundly moving and brilliant.
Don't forget that it costs a great deal of money to perform at the Tony awards. It would probably cost Roundabout little to nothing to get Chenoweth there to sing one song, but they didn't bother to foot the bill for PACIFIC OVERTURES and BIG RIVER fell through - so I wouldn't count on it here.
As nice as it would be to see Chenoweth sing a song from THE APPLE TREE, I would say that it's incredibly unlikely. They will no doubt show a nice video from the show in lieu of the performance - which isn't so bad.

"When was the last play that performed? I don't recall any..... "
I honestly don't remember the last time plays performed, but there is a Plays version of Broadway's Lost Treasures that features the plays the performed on the Tony Awards. I distinctly remember FENCES performing a scene, and another year when they had a slew of stars standing at podiums in a semi-circle, doing bits of monologues and dialogue from the nominated plays.

Off topic, but I had a co-worker ask me if Kristin Chenoweth was still in Wicked. Oy.
Okay, back on topic folks! If Cheno performed solo it would be quite awkward.

With regard to the last time nominated plays were a part of the Tony Awards, 2001 was the year.
Plays represented:
The Invention of Love, introduced by playwright Tom Stoppard. Montage with voice-over by Richard Easton.
King Hedley II, introduced by playwright August Wilson. Excerpt performed by Viola Davis and Brian Stokes Mitchell.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (revival), introduced by Joan Allen. Excerpt performed by Gary Sinise, Amy Morton, Tim Sampson, Bruce McCarty, Jeanine Morick, and Ron O. J. Parson.
Proof, introduced by playwright David Auburn. Scene with Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Shenkman.
The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, introduced by playwright Charles Busch. Scene with Linda Lavin, Tony Roberts, and Michele Lee.

Posted: 5/17/07 at 5:37pmI wonder if Kristin will even go to the Tonys. She's probably pissed, lol. Unless she's a presenter, I wouldn't be surprised if she stayed at home. It's not like Apple Tree is going to win Best Revival.

Kristin will be unavailable to perform at the Tony Awards. She'll be busy rehearsing as Baby June in the next revival of GYPSY. Not that she needs to rehearse that character

I really hope that Kristin performs. She'd steal the TONY awards show and that I would love to see...

I remember reading somewhere that they just recently (few years ago) changed the rules and that closed shows may NOT perform at Tonys.

Posted: 5/18/07 at 12:59pmOh well. I was hoping to hear What Makes Me Love Him by her again, and have a decent recording of it, because even thought the show was average, that scene and her performance of that song were really beautiful.
