Posted: 5/15/07 at 4:48pmDidn't Rags perform after it closed? Had Pacific Overtures already closed by the time it performed at the Tonys a couple years ago?

Posted: 5/15/07 at 4:58pmAlice and Emily performed for Side Show months after it had closed. It happens quite a bit actually, depends on the star power and the value it adds to the broadcast. Most things that have a big appeal this year are still running, so there probably won't be any closed shows performing this year.

Posted: 5/15/07 at 5:02pmI believe if a show closes within a 3 month margin with the Tony's, they perform.

Do we still think that, assuming she's given the opportunity, Cheno will do "Gorgeous"?
That would be intersting considering the snub...
(I'm still a little upset)

He must have been talking about the revival because two numbers (at least) from the original production were performed on the Tony Awards in the 80s.
There are so many youngsters on this list that those of us who aren't need to make things clearer

Re: Pacific Overtures
The original production was open in 1976 at the time of the Tonys. The revival did not perform. It closed long before the Tonys.

Yes, they do perform at the Tonys.
But it's usually one or two people singing one song from the show (Dorothy Loudon singing "Fifty Percent" from "Ballroom," the girls from "Side Show" or Judy Kuhn and Dick Latessa singing "Rags" from "Rags") with little or no scenery and, in the case of Dorothy, not even in costume.

It's only nominated musicals (and revivals) that perform, not plays, right?
So the following 8 would be eligible to perform?
Curtains
Grey Gardens
Mary Poppins
Spring Awakening
The Apple Tree
Company
A Chorus Line
110 in the Shade

Posted: 5/17/07 at 4:12pmIf they let The Apple Tree perform, the only appropriate choices to me seem to be Cheno's numbers, but after her snub do you think Roundabout would want her to perform?

"It's only nominated musicals (and revivals) that perform, not plays, right?"
That depends. Sometimes plays perform, sometimes they don't. However, they usually don't come across that well, performing one scene out of context.
