I'm aware that lots of composers switch styles but it seems some just consistantly work for me.

I'm not an ALW fan, but lots of the music he writes just sits well with my tone. POTO, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Song and Dance just work for me. I love Kander and Ebb but their music doesn't work for me at all, especially since my voice changed. I just don't belt very high or well (if at all) these days.

I tend to be able to sing Sondhiem with some ease and comfortably, which sort of sucks because I hardly get to perform any of it without a really talented painist! I also fit pretty well into the Rogers and Hammerstein stuff, too.

I wish I could sing more rock stuff, like Jonathan Larson, but I just sound too Broadway-belty instead of rock-belty.

I fit well with Rogers and Hart (a lot of their stuff) and Sondheim's music. ALW's sits well with me but I don't like singing it.

I seem to be able to sing Guettal's music... but his music, to me, just sounds like it's great for all singers.

Ahrens and Flaherty, Jonathan Larson, and JRB. I thank them.

Oohh good question,

for me it's Shaiman/Whittman (apparently I have a 60's boy band pop voice), Larsen, Arhens and Flaherty (especially Ragtime), Jason Robert Brown (I can sing the hell out of all Jamie's songs in L5Y), Stephen Schwatrz and Andrew Lippa. Pretty much any music with a slight rocky or poppy edge.

Strouse writes great music for those of us who are actors who...erm...PRETEND to sing. Wonderful character songs.

If I'm trying to get my voice to send good, Rodgers and Hart have good songs for my limited, legit alto.

A lot of Jeanine Tesori's work sets well with my voice, in particular, 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'. There is not a note in that show that I can't hit.

Doh, Richard Rogers. I wish it was Sondheim...though I like Rogers. I sound like a R&H ingenue, not a modern one sadly. Sondheim is never really a problem for me...but I sound like an old school ingenue.

Lippa fits me really well, as does Jason Robert Brown. "Parade" and "L5Y" are vocally perfect for me as well as "john and jen." Some of Sondheim's higher baritone stuff is great too. I haven't heard any Geuttel other than "...Piazza" but I LOOOOOOVE singing Fabrizio's songs. I haven't been able to classify myself ie. ingenue tenor/villain baritone because I don't have a truly specific tone. It's hard matching up with a character type because of that. I know which composers I HATE to sing. ALW and Schwartz are my least favorite to sing probably because they're my least favorite to listen to, and their music is either all over the place or very boring.

I have no rock voice whatsoever. Its fine by me, I have little interest in rock musicals.

Sondheim seems to work for me, especially Into the Woods. I want to learn "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" so bad. I think there is something about his work that touches me. He seems to write what I'm thinking.

I think Rodgers and Hammerstein, Ahrens and Flaherty, Jeff Blumenkrantz, Bock and Harnick, and I think Adam Guettel's stuff fits the best. Sondheim is pretty good but I usually have to work a little harder at it.

Ah Buffy...I can relate! I definately have the more "classical" sound to my voice...so Rodgers and Hammerstein is good. Meredith Willson is too. And I love Lucy Simon's music from Secret Garden. Anything more pop/rock than that and I sound like the music teacher skit from Saturday Night Live!

Sondheim I worwould say actually. Out of all composers, his shows have the most songs that I can sing. In each of his shows, there are at least 3 songs that "set well" in my voice type

Well, let's see....

- Andrew Lloyd Webber (POTO, WIW, Evita, Joseph, etc...)
- Frank Wildhorn (Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Scarlett Pimpernel)
- Sondheim (Into the Woods, Sweeny Todd, etc...)
- Eric Woolfson (Poe, Freudiana, etc...)
- Stephen Flaherty (My Favorite Year...)
- Jim Steinman (Tanz Der Vampire)
- Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Children of Eden, etc...)
- Sylvester Levay (Elisabeth, Mozart, etc...)

A show that particularly fits my voice well is CHESS!

See Ya!
