Sadly I'm out of town for the final performances, I'm hoping I can see it somehow! Will it be at LCL?

Mostly every show is filmed to perserve it. I'm guessing they filmed it during this short run, but I'm not certain.

I hope so too. I've been out of the loop for a while, was there even a cast recording made?

There was not. But hopefully Lincoln Center has made arrangements to go in and film this week if they hadn't done it already.

"Mostly every show is filmed to perserve it."

Not true. The Lincoln Center Theater Archives has a limited budget, and is a bit selective. They try to film as many shows as possible, but they don't have any strict guideline. There are quite a few shows that aren't filmed until years into their run. And since very few shows make it that long, very few shows get recorded.

Exactly. Their tape of DREAMGIRLS was made in 1985 with the final Broadway cast and subsequent script changes. The original 1981 Broadway cast and original staging was not filmed/preserved.

It doesn't matter if Lincoln Center filmed it or not. It'll surface on YouTube, because someone did.

It was the James Cagney version filmed in Marshalls mind - no songs at all.

Haha. Funny someone should ask this. I was actually at the library this morning and overheard an employee told this by a supervisor: "The producers of Ragtime called..." (he mentioned a name, but I can't recall at the moment) "...and they want to set up a time to get filmed this week before they close." So looks like you'll get to see it...

Brody? Really? You say this & NOT mention how you have the OBC video?

Actually the original production was recorded but not with Jennifer Holliday. All other OBC members are intact, though. The video can only be viewed with permission from the Bennett estate, but the library does have this.

If memory serves, the Kennedy Center did a simple video archive of their production but I'm not positive. I do know that no full audio recording was made of the Kennedy Center run.

I'm assuming the chance of there being a cast recording is slim? I saw Ragtime for the first time yesterday and personally felt it was an incredible production. I wish it could be preserved at least this way.

Random Question: Are the pro-shot promos from the Lincoln archives or are they two different things? For instance, I've seen pro-shots of both Idina/Kristin and Shoshana/Megan...so is Wicked filmed twice?

TreyKenyon, what you have seen is BRoll and was shot for promotional purposes, not by Lincoln Center.

Not sure about being filmed, but at the stage door after yesterday's matinee I got to meet Christiane Noll and I told her how I wished they had been able to make a new cast recording. She told me that she heard there was a bootleg audio recording floating around. I asked her if she would be upset if I found it and got a copy. She said... "not at all!"

Does anyone know where one might find such a thing?

And I just have to add, Christiane is beautiful and amazingly kind in person. It was my first stage door experience and one that I will never forget. :)

A bootleg audio recording? There's probably more than twenty. I'm guessing pretty much every performance of a show is recorded in part one way or another.

And the performers want to get their hands on them more than the public does, so i'm sure she'd be thrilled to get one herself.

The problem with these bootlegs, should they turn up, are that they are audience tapes -- like the tapers at a Dead show, but without nearly the level of sophistication. I highly doubt a board tape was made of the show, primarily because making one would require a completely separate mixing desk to do the show, one that takes all the inputs and mixes it for a recording which is very different from a show that sums both unamplified and amplified sources.
