Cause I found their self-importance absolutely nauseating when I saw the show... I just saw a clip on the Tony website and it seems to have gotten worse.

I don't even know what that means...
Hmmmmm........
I don't know what self-important means.
How could I help myself understand this phrase that is unfamiliar to me? If only there were a way
Self-Imprtant....

Again, I'm confused at how you think a performance in a play can actually BE self important.
Not even MENTIONING the fact you thought your opinion of this non-event was important enough to post...
Perhaps your opinion that the cast of American Idiot is "self important" is sorta self important.
Or just dumb.
Or perhaps you're just a jack-off sock...

Yeah, I know. I got ya pretty good.
Although I don't agree one bit with the self-important claim (though I saw the show early in previews so maybe it has changed), I have to say that the link Mildred Plotka posted made me giggle. I've never heard of lmgtfy.com, but will certainly use it in the future. Thanks!
Sorry, Mildred....I don't see how their PERFORMANCE can make them seem PERSONALLY self important.
They believe in what they are doing and are incredibly dedicated....but other than that, I don't see the "self-important" label.
As a response I shall quote the greatest singer in human existence: "Countess" LuAnn De Lesseps
"Money Can't Buy You Class"
Watch What Happens
I guess the answer to your original question is no.
If by "self-important" you mean "talented", "enthusiastic" and "energetic", then yes.

I just find it a bit ironic that you made a thread about a housewives of nj musical which is an awful nauseating tv show that features all self-important characters yet you post a thread about how the american idiot cast made you nauseous.
Mildred Plotka, can you just go away? Your posts are both rude and offensive.
Every rebel without a cause thinks that they are a martyred messiah of sorts, and Idiot is nothing but a rebel without a cause narrative.
Personally I find nothing interesting in stories about whiny post-adolescents who can find nothing productive to do with their lives. But that's me.

How self-important can they feel when they're performing to a half empty theatre every night?
Nice one, erinrebecca. I'm envious.

It probably depends on the size of their, er,...paycheck?

Mildred, what a foolish remark. Perhaps you are confusing "self-importance" with polish. Given that you don't seem to understand the difference might explain the whole NJ thing.

I can see how characters could be self important, and I can see how actors can be self important. I just don't see how a performance can be self important.
Do you think the actors are wrongfully portraying the characters as self important, or do you think the characters as written/directed/acted are self important?
^ That's more or less what I was going to say.
Also, I love that you brought LuAnn into a discussion about American Idiot, lol.
I think the cast is a bit annoying. After the Tony nominations were released, several cast members were ranting and raving all over their twitters. Including Tony Vincent who wrote "F*CK them" to the nominators.

I saw that cast member's tweet about their not being nominated for anything that counts (well...). self-important? oh yes.
It's an actors job to care a lot about their production. Taking it to the internet--and somehow this strikes me as deja vu--is probably not a good idea. Yet it happens. Anyone remember Will Chase's rants when HIGH FIDELITY was picked apart by the critics?

Actually no, I don't. What happened?

All I remembered is he called someone "caddy" and I found the spelling error so funny that I have forever associated it with Will Chase.
