Donmar Parade - Thoughts?

Curious to know from those out there who saw the Donmar's production of Parade what you thought of it. We're getting it here in California in September, and I can't wait to see it!

"Artists are always on the vanguard of change: they give the community a vision."
"Desire comes from the Latin "de sire", or "of the father", or "of the stars". We want what is magical, what is out there, what is of the stars. And so our characters should as well."
"If there are people who don't believe in you, don't hang out with them. Wish them well, wish them peace, and move on."

re: Donmar Parade - Thoughts?

this was a fantastic production and suited the intimacy of the Donmar perfectly. Although i'm a little surprised at some of the casting in the LA production

One of the best (and most moving) things ive seen in the theatre.

re: re: Donmar Parade - Thoughts?

Parade at the Donmar was one of the best things I've seen in the theatre. The whole thing was practically... perfect! The cast was amazing and the set/design/lighting was too. The direction/choreography was very inspiring and it was very surprisingly to realise it's only Rob Ashford's direction debut! The intimacy of the theatre really contributed to the whole experience so I'm not quite sure how it'll work in LA. The cast certainly is very Broadway-famous... hope that won't distract the whole quality of the show!

Beautifully lit and fluently staged, the highlight was All the Wasted Years (or is it Time?)

As ever with this piece, I found the ending clunky- there's just something wrong for me in the structure of the final scenes

I think Parade is one of THE greatest musicals ever written - and Ashford's production at the Donmar was awesome (the fact that it lost out to Hairspray as Best Musical in the Oliviers IMO was nothing short of criminal!). Lara Pulver was simply fantastic as Lucille - just read that she will be playing the role in the LA production so audiences in the City of Angels are in for a treat.

Here's the broadwayworld review of the Donmar production:

A stunning production of a stunning musical. I had to stop my theatrebuds crying into their handbags whilst they tried to peel me off the ceiling.

We all reacted with a spontaneous standing ovation and yet talking about it afterwards we had so many different understandings and interpreteations of what we'd seen.

I saw it four times, thought it was absolutely sensational. Not sure how big the theatre in LA is, the intimacy of the Donmar definitely placed a huge part in the intensity of the production.

Theatre is a bit big but it isnt as big as some on Broadway, they may just get away with it.
It needs a Donmar space.
