Donna Murphy is gorgeous. plain and simple. brilliantly talented and ravishingly stunning. And is anyone in love with her voice? Wow. She has mastered the extremes.
1. COMEDY--WONDERFUL TOWN...and oohhhh how wonderful she was.
2. TRAGEDY--PASSION...breathtaking. utterly, morosely, spellbinding.
anyone have thoughts???

Posted: 3/29/04 at 10:32pmI never knew anything about Donna Murphy except that she was the ballet instructor in Center Stage...until the first time I saw Wonderful Town. Boy did she blow me away..I fell in love with her immediately. She has perfect comedic timing, an awesome powerful voice, and is completely stunning in person, as well as totally sweet! I've become a big fan in the matter of 3 weeks!

Donna Murphy is incredible in Wonderful Town so is Stephanie D'Abruzzo in Avenue Q.
Tough year who will win the Tony?
I want a tie.
Also tough comp with the men Gregg Edelman, Rick Lyon, John T all are incredible but i have heard that the Boy From Oz will get it. All of the performers are great this year and they all deserve it.

yeah, thirdrowcenter, she is frightfully skinny in WT.
Was she always like that? I don't remember noticing.

I think Donna said she's lost eight pounds since rehearsals started for WT, because of all the physical stuff she does during the show.
However, personally I think she's gorgeous =)

Donna Murphy is gorgeous????
How would you describe, say, Vivien Leigh circa GWTW if Donna Murphy merits gorgeous.
Just because you love/admire/are awed by her talent doesn't improve her looks. Did anyone ever argue that Albert Einstein was gorgeous??!!
Remember, Murphy was cast as Fosca. They weren't exactly looking for a stunner for that role.

Posted: 4/5/04 at 2:00pmI also think Murphy is gorgeous. Sondheim has been quoted more than once saying that the most beautiful woman they saw wound up playing the world's ugliest woman. Ben Brantley made a similar comment when he reviewed Murphy in HELEN.

Posted: 4/5/04 at 2:43pmVery attractive lady and very talented. Have loved her in lots of things. Not very impressed with Wonderful Town however. I definitely think it wont be a Tony year this time. So far ( for me) it looks like Idinas year. However; I have yet to see Caroline or change and some people whos opinion I trust swear the Tony will be hers.

I think the Tony will go to Donna but i want Stephanie D'Abruzzo
to get it.
I wish they would tie but i doubt that will happen.
Donna Murphy and Stephanie D'Abruzzo deserve the Tony.
But we shall see what happens May 16th at the Drama Desk Awards.
Stephanie was nominated last year so she can't win this year.

Posted: 4/6/04 at 3:02pmYou're right Joey- in fact, the worry was the Ms. Murphy was too pretty to play Fosca believably.
#20re: re: Donna Murphy
Posted: 4/6/04 at 4:10pmI think Tonya Pinkins deserves to win but I'm so taken with Idina.

donna is great, and stephanie is soo talented and fresh, but idina just stands out to me more than the others, she has this develpment of elphaba that i couldnt see any one else doing
i know a wicked win is contradicted but kristen is hilarious and her vocal mix between opera and broadway brass are great as well
agreed a tough race this year

FrontRow, on the DVD of Passion, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine said that it was ironic that the one time they didn't have to cast an actress who was both talented and attractive, they ended up with Donna, who was beautiful. Sondheim said that that the most they could make her look was plain, not ugly, and that she mostly had to "act" the ugliness of her role.
