After the reputation she got herself in WONDERFUL TOWN...

I doubt she'd do Broadway any time soon.

I AGREE! I miss her so much that every time someone talks about an actress replacement I randomly suggest Donna Murphy. I just really wish I could see her again, she was hilarous as Ruth Sherwood and from the DVD of Passion you can tell she was extremely powerful as Fosca. She is just brilliant and I think she definitely should do another show.

Well, that is rather disappointing! I hope she is not one of those actresses that as soon as they gain enough Broadway fame, they leave to Hollywood. Also, I know she missed like 1000000 performances in a Wonderful Town, but can anyone elaborate on this controversy? Did she have a reason? What were the producers reactions?

The producers reaction...?

She "exited" the show before her scheduled final performance. I think that speaks for itself.

She had medical problems or something, another thing I'm pissed about is that there's no DVD recording of The King and I, no DVD recording of Wonderful Town, I've only seen her in Passion and she doesn't have a flippin site! How are us fans supposed to know what's up?

I'm willing to bet she won't be getting an above-the-title billing anytime soon.

As I've said before, she needs to play Mrs. Lovett...REALLY. I mean, I have no idea how she'd play it...that's the exciting part.

I *too* wish she'd come back.

Wow, I had never thought of Murphy doing Mrs.Lovett, she might actually do a great job with this role. But her reputation from Wonderful Town shouldn't be enough reasons to erase all the good work she's done, also how bad was it? I mean did she really miss that many performances? I don't know much about this issue. I think producers/directors should also take in consideration the fact that when she did perform in a Wonderful Town, she was seamless, plus I'm sure she had her reasons not to perform.

I really hope it'll blow over and producers will take a chance on her again. She is truly one of the most talented actors to ever hit a Broadway stage. Broadway needs her work.

I know I'm not one of the many people who went to see her in Wonderful Town and didn't get a chance to, but, my gosh, if say, Meryl Streep* did the same thing, would we bar her from theater forever?

*As far as I know Ms. Streep doesn't miss shows, but even if she did, wouldn't we still be lucky to see her up there once every few weeks?

I agree, I mean I understand why the audience-more than producers-would be mad at her because for some of us it's really a sacrifice every time we go see a show and if we pay that much money and travel to NYC to see a certain performer (for some of us who are not lucky enough to live in NYC), so we expect that performer to have some sort of consideration for us, especially Murphy knows people watched Wonderful Town because of her, I mean she was the only one billed above the title and the show is considered one of the best star vehicles so that does disappoint me a bit about her. However, she falls in the same category as actresses such as Bernadette Peters and Audra McDonald so she deserves a chance to prove herself again and show what a great actress she is.

She is in the movie "The Fountain" starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. There's no release date for it yet - it was originally late 2005 but now I believe it's 2006.

I agree with the fact that Donna is wonderful, but if she had problems doing 8 shows a week in King and I, and Wonderful TOwn. Do you really think she can perform Miss Lovett? I had read awhile back on these threads that she is suppose to do THEY"Re PLAYING OUR SONG on Broadway with Brian Mitchell. I dont know if there was any truth to it. She is kinda old for that role now. I mean the character is suppose to be 30.

Really? I didn't know she had problems in The King and I.

Well, she (at least supposedly) missed shows because she wasn't feeling well. Perhaps in a less physically demanding role (no heavy hoop skirts or crazy dancing?)when she feels better?

Brooke Shields managed just fine.

Actually, despite missing many performances, she didn't miss as many as people like to depict.

And, yes, she had very strong personal reasons for missing so much and for exiting early.

And not to slight Ms. Shields in any way, she didn't sing the show in the same demanding way that Ms. Murphy did. Ms. Shields did it like Rosalind Russell would have.

I can't wait to see Donna Murphy on Broadway again. I think she would be great in Doubt.

She needs to come back and star as Rose in a revival of BYE BYE BIRDIE. I insist on it.

I saw Wonderful Town twice and was fortunate enough to see Donna Murphy each time. She was just amazing and, even though I emphathize with those who were angry with her for missing performances, I still hope she manages to come back to Broadway because she's just that great. (While I'm hoping, I'll also hope that her attendance record is better) :)

I *heart* Donna so much! She is indeed out and about. I saw her at the Broadway Flea Market and BCEFA "On the 20th Century" concert.

Along with Rose in Bye Bye Birdie, I would also suggest Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes. Donna can sing the hell outta a song, dance and act like no one else.

I don't think she had a problem with Wonderful Town's score ro acting. She pushed the show so much, she begged, and she fought with all of her might and she got it and blew it.

Brooke was amazing as Ruth.
