yeah, guys seriously, there's no need to get into arguements or get upset, that goes double for jrb. I understand that you have a valid opion and so does everyone else in this message board. Don't get angry or make fun of other people just because their opinion is different from yours. There have been many things that i've dissagreed with in past threads, but all i did was express myself and not blame other people if I thought they were wrong.
"I find your sarcasm most distasetful." - Giorgio
Damn straight Giorgy.
I believe i read in an interview one time that donna had a miscarriage. Perhaps that could be the reason.

Donna Murphy did say that she had health issues during the run. Here's the link to the interview: http://www.americantheaterwing.org/audio-DSC.php?page=6&count=10
Isabella2- I believe it was her miscarriage that held up the show when there was talk of a full revival coming to Broadway in 2000 after the Encores! performances.

Thanks for linking that interview. That is the one that I was talking about in which she described her health issues. An issue that at one time, threatened her life.
On a side note, I adored her in SP2. Perfect death scream.

Okay, for those of you who don't want to listen through the WHOLE interview (although is it is very fascinating) this is what she says about her run in Wonderful Town: (Keep in mind that I'm "the spoken word: so it may all seem like one big run on sentence, but I don't want to change her words.)
Donna: The was a lot of controversy this year about the fact that I was sick during the coarse of "king and I”...oh hello... (Laughing and correcting herself) we didn't get to talk about "king and I"! Of "Wonderful Town" and, it was one of the most heartbreaking experiences I've ever had in my life, because I genuinely got ill during the beginning of the run, and then I got a couple of sinus infections that just wiped me out and it was just a show that I couldn't do not well. The truth is that I did it sick a number of times. But there are some writers out there... who make a living, let's face it, as gossip columnists, and that's their job, you know, and I had never experienced anything like that, and I allowed my self to take it personally for a few minutes. I felt so, first of all, responsible in terms of my company and the show and then and we were approaching award season, one person in particular really was harping on my absences and. It just sort of gave a tone like I was making a choice to not be there. I mean, I was making a choice, to not attend the award ceremony, because I was ill and I was trying to get well enough to get back into the show. So there was an inference that I was a certain kind of "diva" who cared about herself and who didn't care about the work or the show and the irony was that, all I was doing was being at home in bed trying to get well, So that I could be back as strongly as possible. Nobody was as upset as I was.
Howard Sherman: It's an awfully loaded word, (They were talking about the word "diva" before) and I only bring it up because it seems to me, at times, to be used unfairly and at times, just kind of interchangeably with "star".
Donna: Right.
Howard Sherman: But it does have all those different meanings obviously some of what we talked about today, the word for you is "actress".
Donna: Thanks... Thank you.

Posted: 10/16/05 at 6:24pmOK, I tried to play the file but apparently my computer is not in good terms with me. So I thank you a lot for the transcript Isabella. There you go, you see? She is not some kind of diva, she did confront the problem after all, I mean I can't believe she had a miscarriage and then she had all these health issues. She is truly a great performer and I admire her so much. I guess she won't be doing Charity since the producers must not be too happy with her, but hey, it's time she originates another role on Broadway, maybe Sondheim will write another show and it will star Murphy, now that's heaven!

Sorry, Isabella, but I do not need a lecture from you. My reputation on this board speaks for itself, particularly as one who will not stand for the kinds of comments that have taken place in this thread--particularly when out of all of you I WAS ACTUALLY THERE.
I do applaud you, Isabella, for wishing to restore civility to the thread.

Thanks, ray. That's pretty awesome I'm happy for her. Even more happy for the kid.
jrb, i thank you for your applause, but you have to understand that if you demand respect you're not likely to get it. Your comments where slightly harsh and unreasonable to pj.
I don't really understand what reputation it is that you have but your reputation doesn't give you the right to shut other people down.
The fact that you are so condescending and immature, prooves, at least to me, that your reputation isn't so great. I just remembered that you said you were an usher for the show?
If this is true, honestly i don't find that a very big deal. Anyone could have been there, could have known about Donna, could have maybe talked to her a couple of times. I am simply still young and wasn't informed of the show at the time. The fact that a 31 old person would be argueing with a 16 year old about this, is a little pathetic.
Someone who has to remind everyone of their reputation, doesn't actually have one.
As for the comments taken place on this thread, I found them reasonable, expressing different viewpoints and facts that i hadn't known about.
Maybe i'd respect you if you were nice and humble, like most people here.
Honestly, folks, I don't wanna argue about these petty things. I started this thread to get others' views, not to have fights....

Posted: 10/17/05 at 12:19amWell, apparently she's had a miscarriage before so I can only imagine how hard it must have been for her. I am extremely joyful that she could adopt a child but the selfish part of me is a little sad that she will have to dedicate lots of time to motherhood and not Broadway.

I love it when new posters (or maybe "new" posters?) join the board and think they have it all down. You see what you want to see, Isabella. The truth always rises to the surface.

honestly , i don't think i have it all down, i make plenty of mistakes and there's still alot of things i have to learn.
I think you're unreasonable, so let's end this arguement now.
Prettylittlepicture, do you know where she's performing and how i could get tickets?

popcultureboy, i'm not sure if you're challenging me or simply informing me.
Yes I read PJ's comments, and i agreed with him at the time because i didn't know that donna murphy said anything about her absences. Pj didn't know either and probably hasn't seen the comments written so far.

"To defend Ms. Murphy (as I will continue to do), she does not need to 'explain' herself to anyone. "
Considering her name was above the title, she did need to explain herself. And she certainly needed to explain herself to the producers, despite your claim that she need not explain herself to "anyone." That she was sick and the has stated that she was sick is fine. But to just miss shows and not explain why when you are being advertised as part of the reason to see the show then you certainly need to say why you are out.
