so I think it's time to start taking bets on what month the show will close. I absolutely loved WT every time I watched it, but this has to mean the end is near. Business will probably pick up for a short time, Brooke will probably bring in more people than Fatone did at LSOH. But eventually I think it'll unravel and leave us in January.

Brooke is or was a very nice girl. I was in physcial therapy with her once at Lennox Hill Hospital.

I remember one particular television interview. Her big "thing" in GREASE was that she could belch on command. Does her character in WT need to belch on cue?

So - would we all rather see the show just close, or continue to run with Shields?

What happened to Cyndi Lauper? I think she's a better choice.

Donna was given 4 weeks notice (under terms of rewritten contract), another major cast member offered resignation in sympathy. Whether that resignation will be accepted is another issue.

Shout all you like, and believe whatever spin is released to the press if you wish (and it will be SPUN to save face), but you read it here.

Lauper saw the show when offered role, turned it down. Updated On: 8/17/04 at 07:55 AM

Margo pointed out that the role was written for someone with a 4 note range, so while there may be a lot of singing to do, none of it is particularly demanding on the vocal chords.

But there is a HUGE difference between being able to carry a tune and sounding like the mating call of the elephant seal. Brooke Shields is firmly in the latter category there.

O.K., admittedly "fired" is such an ugly word.

So let's look at it THIS way:

What do you call it when the producer exercises a 4-week "out"
in the contract?

...............firing?

What do you call it when the performer exercises a 4-week "out"
in the contract?

...............quitting?

What do you call it when the producer & the performer exercise a 4-week "out" in the contract"by mutual agreement"?

...............a press release.

She's on medical leave for those four weeks though.

I put this in another post. Does anyone think Bebe Neuwirth would be good in this role? She sounds similar to Donna Murphy and is a very good dancer. Idk, maybe it's a stupid idea...but does anyone else see it. I think it's better than having Brooke (I like the idea of Reba too)

Ok how about Faith Prince?? I love her.. I think she would be great!

* Added: Don't get me wrong I think Donna is wonderful, but if she's leaving bring in Faith. Not sure how many people that would bring but I think she'd do a great job at it. Updated On: 8/17/04 at 11:37 AM

Would bring about the same amount (if that) that Ziemba does. Which means - no.

I'm not basing my take on things from a press release. I work in that theatre, remember? And the way you are telling the story doesn't match up with talk at the theatre. If I am wrong, I will admit it--WHEN the "truth" actually comes to light.

For the moment, you are in gossip/rumor/trash talk territory. And, if you actually work on the show or for the producers, you are a jerk for betraying confidentiality. Sharing your scoop is way too precious to you over respect for people. And, anyway you cut it, you suck.

jrb is right, Donna's contract is up soon, but still
Brooke???? Are the Weislers nuts???

Bebe Neuwirth - the right way to go, much better singer
than Brooke could ever be.
Reba- i'm not very comfortable with this decision.

Annie Get your gun was written for her but this role
was not. She's not your average Ohio Girl.

I love Donna and i would be extremely offended by bringing
in Brooke to take her place.

But as Ethel Merman put it:

now i know the weislers need a big name to
attract more money,
but on the talent scale i would enlist
the following people into the role of
Ruth Sherwood:
Bebe Neuwirth,
Linda Muggleston
and
Karen Ziemba

just someone other than Brooke!!!!!!!

What is this 4-week notice about? It doesn't make sense if the contract expires in October. Is someone spreading "sensational news" about Donna Murphy? Yikes!

we're not exactly saying 4 weeks notice, it's just that
her contract expires in about 4 weeks. near october.

no, srry no rumors, the weislers (as usual) need money
and i guess that if they bring someone from Hollywood
to fill her shoes the show could get a bigger boost into
the financial score of it all.

i just wish it wasnt true.

does anyone know where i can send fanmail if i wont
be able to send it to the Hirschfeld Theatre??

It won't be the same without Donna Murphy....I think the show is finally on its way out (has been for some time...but now the fast track begins).
