Donna Murphy given four weeks notice, Brooke Shields replaces her til the holidays...then - in negotiations with Reba to take over after that. This sure is a "wonderful town"!
Donna was fired?
I hope this is some sick joke.
I REALLY hope this is not true! I just saw her last weekend and she was great!
ARE YOU FOR REALLLLL!?????????????????????????
BROOKE SHIELDS????????????????????????????????
UM RIZZO!
NEED I SAY MORE?!
Donna Murphy isn't being given notice. Her contract expires.
I hope it's a joke like the "Stamos in Fiddler" post a few weeks back! I just heard Brooke Shields in the "Grease" disc and she just can't sing. If they fire Donna Murphy, they are seriously damaging the career of one of the VERY FEW real musical theater stars left!

I'm pretty sure jrb is right and Murphy's contract is expiring. If that's the case, the Weissler's can go ahead and replace her with whomever they please.
But Brooke Shields? Really? Weird choice, that.

Not so weird for the Weisslers. Although my money was on Christopher Walken.
REBA, YES!
Brooke, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I understood putting her in Annie Get Your Gun...but Wonderful Town??? Come on, Weisslers. You really can't think of anyone better suited???
Donna is NOT being fired. Reba would be awesome in the show.
I don't know Brooke's voice, but remember that the role wasn't written for a singer.

hmmmm..............................
I cannot see Brooke Shields is this role at all. She seems like a very poor casting choice if this is true.
The only reason I can't see her working is cause...well...she's still pretty beautiful. I mean...Jennifer Westerfeldt will pale in comparison next to her.
I love the Forbidden Broadway Weissler informercial with Sally Struthers. "Look at me, I'm fifty-three...I'm no longer on TV...since I'm not dead, and I have to be fed, look out! I'm Sandra Dee!"
Sally Struthers is a sweetheart as well as a true comic genius. She's recurring on Still Standing these days, and every facial tic that woman makes is brilliant. That being said, that Forbidden B'way skit sounds damn funny.
How accurate/reliable is this WT info?
I still can't believe the show's even open. More power to any producer who can keep it going.
As I've mentioned several times on other threads, the Weisslers do have a solid history of running shows until there is not a penny left.
well it sounds like unfortunately the final nail is in the coffin

Actually, Donna's contract is not up until the end of October but she can leave early if something comes up. Don't know the truth of this firing/casting rumor...but I'll find out the real story soon enough.
I think Reba would be awesome to see in it...Brooke? not so much.
Let me just say that I think that Donna is wonderful. If I were in her shoes and I was fired, I would be more offended by their replacement choices.Brooke Shields? She can't sing! Reba was an okay choice for "Annie Get your Gun" because of the type of part it was, but I'm not sure about Wonderful Town.
I don't get it. I don't think I understand the Weisslers anymore. I never understood half of their Rizzo decisions.
Didn't I also hear something about Christina Appelgate (Also a gross choice) doing WT?
I don't think it's so much just the Weisslers though. I am appalled by a lot of casting decisions. Jenna Elfman in "Nine" which thankfully didn't work out. Melanie Griffith in "Chicago." I know a lot of people thought she was good, but I just didn't.
Hopefully it will come full circle and casting will get better.
Starting to look at talent before looks would be a good start.
