The show will most likely be closing soon. How can they be casting all these future roles when it is not doing well to say the least (its the worst-faring musical on Broadway raking in 140,000 dollars on average)

They're hoping stunt casting will save it. And previous posters have said the Weisslers are known for running money-losing shows for a long time.
Sorry, but Im confused...who are the Weisslers?
They produce "Wonderful Town" and are known for their habit of stunt casting, particularly in their other productions. See "Grease" or "Chicago." In some cases, this works. In others, it doesn't.

They're the producers of the show, as well as many others on Broadway, and are well known for stunt casting to keep their shows going. Some of their recent shows have included Suessical, Grease, Annie Get Your Gun, and Chicago, all of which used celebrity casting to help themselves along.
edit: And...I'm too slow, evidently. :)

Notoriously money-hungry producers. In fact, they trained the lovely and charming David Stone who is the lead producer on WICKED.
I just saw "Wonderful Town" on Saturday night.
This news saddens me greatly, as it means that fewer audiences will be able to witness the awe-inspiring performance of Donna Murphy.
In my mind, she is irreplacable.
Now I must make a statement that may unintentionally support the case for Ms. Shields:
Those who said that Brooke Shields' beauty might outshine that of Jennifer Westfeldt must not have ever seen Donna Murphy out of costume and makeup.
She is, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful people that I have ever seen.
since the show has been going down in ticket sales,
how can the Weislers be sure that bringing in a big
celeb will boost the ratings? I think it is all a bit
sketchy.
I would rather see the show close than see Donna Murphy
replaced.
