As the son of a woman who is an avid member of the Donny.com (Donny Osmond's website)fan club, I would just like to say that these producers have HIT THE JACKPOT! I have seen pictures from his concerts where thousands of middle-aged women flock to see him, rushing the stage like the second coming of Elvis. Ive heard stories of them sneaking into hotels where he's staying in attempt to take pictures with him. My mother's not that bad but I'm sure if this is true, she and every other card carrying member (and yes, there are actually cards) will be the first in line to see this show again.
Exactly what I was thinking. All the mama Donny fans will be bringing their little kids in to see the show. Should go over big.

Laugh if you must, naysayers...but Osmond was incredible in Joseph. Good for him!
Yes he was good in Joseph...but he has that "innocent" boy look and appeal. He doesn't have the demeanor for Gaston...and I don't think he has the acting ability to pull it off. I love his voice, but Gaston he ain't
This is not a rumor ... it is happening. He will go in after Jacob Young is through with his contract as their next "star"... Sarah Litzinger will start as Belle at the end of the month.
OMG, if donny can be gaston on broadway, then so can i...

His new book is number one on the UK charts and his website says he will, indeed, be Gaston. I liked him in "Joseph" when I saw it in Chicago, but isn't he too old now for Gaston? He is in his mid 40's. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I thought Gaston was much younger.

Hugh Jackman may not be an egomaniac, but he's... what's the word... manly. Donny Osmond doesn't scream machismo to me.
That's exactly what I was getting at. I like Donny Osmond as a performer in the right roles. I think he was the best Joseph I've ever seen, and I've seen about a gazillion. But I was at the 4th of July concert where he talked about being offered the Phantom, and he sang some of that score. It was all wrong. Sounded pretty, but not the right character for his look or his voice. Gaston's the same thing. He'll never really pull off the manly, macho character.
For what it's worth, I think the producers are the ones really scoring here. He will bring in a double audience of middle-aged women and their children.

According to his website he starts Sep 19 for a 9-week run!

And, he canceled his New Zealand tour because his mother-in-law has terminal cancer and the doctors feel she may pass away during the period he'd be gone. He's rescheduled the dates for those appearances.

FYI, Donny was also interested in doing Jekyll on Broadway, as was John Stamos. Hey, if David "the beach boy" was cast in Jekyll, that tells me anything is possible.

Donny is actually 48 years old. He'll be 49 in December. And he's a grandfather.
He's just aged very well. And, have you seen his wife Debbie? She is gorgeous at 46!

Same here! I will be there for sure! I can picture him in the role but the role I`d rather see him in?.....Billy in Chicago!!! He would rock in that! (And then I can take my mom to see him in Chicago and she wouldn`t be mad at me anymore for not going to see Huey Lewis in it!!!!!!!!)
I LOOK FUNNY IN A BATHING SUIT!!!!!!!!
He was actually considered for the role of Beast a few years ago. The big problem was that Beast is in mask for most of the show. My big problem with the show is Steve Blanchard. That man is too old, and it is gross when Belle is a teenage star.
Though its terrible casting the producers want to make money and thats exacty what they will do with Donny Osmond in the show. So on a financial standpoint its not bad casting at all. But instead Beauty and the Beast probably should just close.

just buck up Ryan, Frank could have put a pair of fangs on that toothy smile and he could have been jekkiedrac.
:: picturing Donny in one of those He-Man body suits, all pumped up, with the line " I'm especially good at expectorating" ::
Kidding aside, I think Donny is one talented guy with a glorious voice. We should all age as well! And if Disney wants him, he'll be there. How 'bout Tarzan? AKA " Swinging Crap" (isn't that just AW-ful?)

I for one am happy to see Donny return to musicals. I have never seen the show though.
I thought it was a joke.
I think he'll be fantastic. I can really see him in this role.
Congrats, Donny!
