According to the article, the early buzz is very good.
So Streep is very likely is win her third Oscar with the role of Sister Aloysius.
You mean Streep is going to beat herself out for Mamma Mia!?
Time tells, of course, but, at the moment, I'd prefer Kate Winslet to win - for either "The Reader" or "Revolutionary Road" (preferably for the last one, since the role is so juicy).
That's the same issue with the next Harry Potter movie on the cover as a Fall release. Bumped to next summer after they went to press. Snif.
And, yeah-- very much looking fwd to Doubt.
There's no way to determine whether Streep will win or not at this point. I would be quite glad if she were to win a third Oscar (she has to at least match Katherine Hepburn's record eventually, though I'd be happier if she surpassed it). I just think it's not worthy getting excited about it yet. Let's wait till the movie comes out and the critics weigh in. I mean, EW once predicted that Rosario Dawson might get a nod for RENT and that Nathan Lane and Uma Thurman could be on the Oscar race...this was of course before both RENT and THE PRODUCERS actually came out.
Having said that, I CANNOT wait to see Streep, Davis, and Adams. That picture only makes me more excited about this.
I recently saw Angels In America the HBO mini series, and I have to say Meryl Streep is the female version of Goldfinger. Everything she does is jaw dropping. I met a lot of people on Broadway but when I met her at the Mamma Movie Premiere in NYC, she had an aura of an Angel. I am sure Prada will provide her Wings when the time comes.

What?
Viola Davis is really harrowing in her scene. I'd be thrilled if she gets a supporting actress nomination for it, as EW mentions.
I'm thankful for this thread for 3 reasons:
1. Wonderful (brief) article that will surely help generate some positive word-of-mouth. Thank goodness, also, that the blurb-writer knew a bit about Bway chops.
2. Great photo. Streep looks sublime in this role and Amy Adams is just beautiful
3. I had no idea The Reader was being movie-ized, with Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet no less. I remember reading that novel when I was in junior-high (at Oprah's recommendation) and enjoying it (both as literature and soft-core porn for a tween)

That is a small but really baity role. But Amy Adams should be also very good. So who do you think has the bigger chance of being nominated for supporting actress at the Oscars? Maybe both of them will be nominated.
Davis has the better chance. It's just because of the role. Both performances are very strong.
Meryl has to be the busiest person in Hollywood.
Dumb question but what acting style does Meryl Streep follow? Method?
No buzz for Adams? She's perfectly cast in the most deceptively
complex role of the four.
EDIT: But I do agree. Davis' role is flashier.

lol sry I meant when it's her time to go, she will be in the Golden Gates with Diamond Wings, and I am sure there is a Joan River type angel in Heaven asking her who designed her wings.
i know its corny but the point she is very Angelic
Wouldn't it be great if all four DOUBT leads got nominated?
Bill, I've indeed read that Streep is a method actress. She also mentioned in interviews during PRADA that she didn't want to become friendly with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt during the shooting because it'd ruin the dynamics on the screen.

I had such high expectations for Meryl Streep in Mama Mia and that was a big letdown. I'll reserve judgment this time.

Can't wait to avoid this flick, unless I happen to need a nice ninety odd minute nap.
Hi, bore!
On why he didn't cast the original, phenomenal Broadway actors...
"There was a real possibility of a retread feeling. I wanted a fresh take."
Uh-huh. I guess that sounds better than "I was told by the studio that hired me that the project was green-lit conditionally based on the acquisition of A-list talent." I mean, I know he has to spin it, but try not to knock the original actors in the process (cause they would have been phenomenal).
They seriously need to release a trailer already. Anybody knows if there's a scheduled date for the first trailer? This is the movie I'm most excited about this coming award season.

Why did you have high expectations for her in Mamma Mia? It's not like Donna is an incredibly complex role.
