there was talk at one time of Douglas going on vacation in September. Has anyone heard of the dates? I already have tickets for Friday, September 17th but would be a bit crushed if he wasn't in the show (I missed him when I saw the show in London as well)
I would think because his name is above the title, isn't there some sort of obligation to inform people of his dates - or do I have that wrong?
Cannot wait to revisit this show after loving it in London.

Posted: 8/25/10 at 9:51amHis name is above the title, but I don't think there's necessarily an obligation for people to be informed prior. That said, I've seen it happen in cases where major celebrities (Catherine Zeta-Jones) or popular Broadway actors (Nathan Lane, Bebe Neuwirth, Bernadette Peters) scheduled vacations.

Posted: 8/25/10 at 9:56amWe had tickets for a Friday night when Douglas Hodge was out. We were able to get an exchange for another date with no problem, so shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you for responding! FIngers crossed
I am really hoping I luck out and Douglas is NOT on vacation that day. I'm coming in from out of town and would be so bummed out to miss Hodge. I'd also like to have a back-up plan just in case...since I'd prob see ALNM again

Posted: 8/25/10 at 6:53pmWe had tix for the Wednesday after the Tony awards (which, of course, Douglas won). He was out for that matinee, so I exchanged the tix for today's matinee. He was there and was just amazing! (so I know I made the correct decision---even tho' at the time I was hesitant to leave the theater w/o seeing the show). He was definitely worth waiting to see!

Posted: 8/25/10 at 10:48pmJust saw him in the show last night (after seeing him/it in London exactly a year ago). He was fantastic, just amazing. The whole show is just wonderful. Definitely worth seeing Hodge if you can (i.e. if he is out on your date and you can return to see the show at a later date).

I agree - Douglas Hodge was amazing when I saw him a few weeks ago! Definitely want to see him again. I heard he and Kelsey are switching roles at some point...is that true and if so, when?
Also, does anyone know if Douglas does the stage door? He didn't the matinee day I saw him, but Kelsey did, and the Cagelles and Veanne Cox came out at some point but didn't sign or anything. Kelsey signed and posed and chatted and was a total sweetheart. The next day the news broke that his wife was divorcing him!

Posted: 8/26/10 at 11:56amThere was a time when Grammer was going to take over Albin when Hodge left but even before Hodge extended his contract he said he had decided not to at least for a while

Posted: 8/26/10 at 12:27pmI've seen all three productions of La Cage and (IMO), I think that Douglas Hodge played the best Albin. I preferred Gene Barry's version of Georges in the first one. (MANY years ago) :), altho' I think Kelsey was much better than I'd expected before seeing it.

Douglas Hodge came out Tuesday night and was just so great and nice. Actually, I think everyone came out, each Cagelle, everything, it was a great stage dooring experience.
Also I agree with ^ ^: Kelsey exceeded all expectations; he was fantastic.

@justafan2 -
I loved Gene Barry's rendition of "Song on the Sand" from the orig. soundtrack, but I never saw the original show and there's nothing on Youtube. I wonder if there is a copy anywhere on DVD? There's something so real about his voice and emotion in that song....love it!!!!

Posted: 8/30/10 at 12:26pmCheck Telecharge.com's page for "La Cage" tickets. It will state on there if either Doug or Kelsey will be out for a date.

As per the gentleman selling tickets at the box office yesterday; "if he will be out, it should be the last week in September."
I asked since I'm going on 9/9 and shared the same concern.

Posted: 8/30/10 at 4:32pmso perhaps, hopefully, I'm safe as I have tickets for LA CAGE on September 17th - and that doesnt seem to be the last week of September. Waiting for it to be posted finally on Telecharge though just in case I need to pick up tickets to something else...Thanks Marway44 for your recon
