What was the "Do you know Rose's Turn" joke?
Does anyone know if the Drama Desk makes the awards ceremony video available anywhere after the show is over?
That was a mess. If they want to broadcast this show they really need to take it a bit more seriously.
The pianist onstage started to play music every time a winner's 90 seconds were up. When he started to play after Tom Edden's 90 seconds, Tom (mid speech) turned to the pianist and asked him, "Do you know Rose's Turn?"
Another fun fact: Three scores nominated at the Tony Awards this year are now Drama Desk winners.
not so fun fact: were I the parent of a tony nominated actor, I might be seriously worried about my health.
Ooo...too soon!
I believe this is Alan Menken's first Drama Desk Award. So congrats to him!
Congrats to him even if it's not his first!
The Drama Desk Awards Ceremony is on line now for those who missed it last night "live".
The Drama Desk Awards
Okay two things--
HOW did "THE GERSHWNS'" PORGY AND BESS win for its tinny, canned Sound Desigh?
AND HOW(!!!) did ONCE win Best Lyrics? Surely Maury Yeston and Jack Feldman were more deserving. I actually think Yeston should have won Best Music and Feldman should have won Best Lyrics, BUT, you know how these award morons are...
If anything, Once should have won for Music and not Lyrics. I think they just wanted to give it to Menken.
Nah, I think Yeston should have won Music. Some of the lyrics in DEATH... were so-so, but the Music was his best since NINE.
I meant if Once were to win in one category, it should have been music. Not saying it deserved to win.

As much as I would have loved to see Feldman win for his lyrics, I can understand why, and am happy for, the ONCE win. Out of music and lyrics, I think the lyrics in ONCE are superior to the music, at least if we are judging them separately. They are beautiful. But I do think Menken deserved music. I'm happy for both shows and that they split the awards.
