It doesn't say whether or not they will be replacing the nominees. I know the Tonys aren't, so I assume the Drama Desks aren't either.
Thank goodness.
Well, isn't this just a big embarrassing mess.

^Yeah, how did no one catch this - for both groups!
Uh, yeah, anyone here could have told them. It would have been like nominating the revivals of Hair or South Pacific for orchestrations or the revivals of A Chorus Line or Les Miz for costume design. ~Steven

This is my favorite:
"The Drama Desk makes its own decisions."
Honey, if you have to say it...
How did they not realize this??
Yet another reason why people should put ZERO faith in any of these awards.
ETA...and I'm about as big a fan of Ragtime as you'll find.

^ Exactly. It's just so unfair to the shows that deserved these nominations.
I think this whole debacle is a slap in the face to the deserving work of other costume designers and orchestrators. And I LOVED Ragtime and think it deserves every accolade that comes it's way.
I too loved Ragtime, but this was completely unfair in every way. Anyone with any knowledge of Ragtime knows that those were pretty much the same costumes as the original and the exact same orchestrations as the Tony- and Drama Desk-winning originals.
