Drama League Distinguished Performance 2019

The Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance is always one of my favorite awards since it compares all the actors across all the categories. Who do you think has a chance at it this year?

My first thoughts are: Kelli O'Hara, Bryan Cranston, Laurie Metcalf, Patrick Page or Elaine May

Any other thoughts?

Agree with Cranston, May, Metcalf (in that order), even if neither wins a Tony.

Are there any astonishingly good off-Bway performances we're forgetting? Last time someone won for a non-Broadway role was Christine Ebersole for Grey Gardens in 06.

As far as predicting the win, I'm betting on Elaine May. Not only did she give a phenomenal, raved-about performance, but I think the League will favor her because of her age - you could argue they did the same with Glenda last year, and Chita a few years before. I'm not saying that alone isenough to get her the win, but I think that, in combination with theperformance itself, will get her the win. Though I agree that Cranston is not out of the running.



As far as the nominations so, I think we all know who's in the mix from the pool of Broadway shows this season - so many amazing performances, especially in the plays. But here are some Off-Broadway performances that I think deserve to be recognized with a nomination (though I don't necessarily predict that they will):
