I'm sort of disappointed by the nominations this year. Honestly, I feel like someone gave them a list of plays/musicals that were expected to get nominated instead of plays/musicals that deserve to get nominated (thus Julia Roberts). Hurray for HISTORY BOYS! Also: hurray for Stephen Lynch!
Also: I'm glad that Christopher Denham was on the list. I know there are many differing opinions on RLW but I thought his performance was solid from beginning to end. (Can't wait to see how his playwriting holds up in CAGELOVE.)
There are a couple I'm just confused by this year. Carolee Carmello, for instance. (Sorry, she didn't deserve one for THAT performance.) I was surprised that Nellie McKay, Lili Taylor and Cherry Jones were blocked-out.

Last year there was a list of people that have previously won Drama League Awards that got special recognition and were not on the main list...and that list included Cherry Jones for Doubt. So, I take it that would exclude her for Faith Healer as well. Has Tyne Daly won previously? Because that would be the only explanation I could see for overlooking her commanding performance.
That said, I think the noms seem about 50% right on (Megan Lawrence, Title of Show, Felicia Finley) and 50% chosen by someone who has never actually seen the shows (Julia over Bradley Cooper, etc.). I'm sad to see Bernarda Alba's ommission also. I especially appreciated Nikki James' performance.

According to their own rules, no more than two performers per show can be recognized, thus no Felciano, no Cherry Jones, no Tyne Daly, or Nellie McKay. They made an exception for Threepenny (for whatever reason) and gave out three, but no other show got more than two.
I've said this repeatedly -- the Drama League is a NOTHING award. No one pays attention to it and it's not an indicator of anything. It's like the Golden Globes used to be in their sketchier days when they gave a Best Actress Award to Pia Zadora because her millionaire husband spread a lot of money around and threw the voters a big expensive party. The Drama League is just a little luncheon that's held. They do cocktails, have a buffet, give out 4 or 5 awards and that's it. They nominate dozens of celebrities, hoping that they'll show up and they can rub shoulders with them (which is why Julia Roberts got a nod). Don't stress over who was overlooked -- it doesn't matter.
