A few days ago, I was talking with my cast mates from Matilda the Musical about their dream roles.
We'd go around and give two realistic ones and two unrealistic ones
My two realistic ish ones were Chip Tolentino and Gordon Michael Shwinn
My two unrealistic ones were Evan Hansen and Marius Pontmercy
I then went on to list a bunch that I didn't know if they were realistic or not
Elder Price, Orpheus, Mr. Harry Wormwood, Whizzer Brown, Phil Connors, Judas Iscariot (In Jesus Christ Superstar, probably not in Godspell)...
So I'm just curious what other people's dream roles are

As someone whose voice gravitates to baritone/bass, I only have so many roles I can strive towards, haha. But Sweeney Todd, Captain Von Trapp, and maybe Curly from Oklahoma! and Pierre from Great Comet are among them (though the latter two may be pushing it). Once Hadestown becomes available for licensing Hermes and Hades would be on my list.
As far as straight plays go, one I'd love to play even though the show is almost never produced would be Dr. Ferguson in Sidney Kingsley's Men in White. Jeff in Lobby Hero, too. I also have a list of plays I'd like to produce or direct that's as long as my arm, but that's a conversation for another day.

As a small minded classical student who is obsessed with musical theater, I didn't even consider the notion of straight plays (Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher would be amazing and one day I really want to play Morrie in Tuesdays with Morrie but that's for when I'm like seventy)
Also those roles are all awesome
I adore the role of Hermes and how universalizing it is
Hadestown is so interesting in how it handles voice parts and composition, and Hermes is one role that I adore but I just don't think I'd ever be able to sell
And by the way
True basses are the most powerful voices in the whole world
I'm a tenor who can play baritone fairly convincingly, and the highest notes I can hit feel incredible and make people impressed on a surface level, but a good bass projecting their lowest low notes over an orchestra or a chorus creates this magical effect that is unlike anything else
There may not be many bass roles but that's just because so few people can pull them off
I sure don't have the notes to play bass roles

Wow I never thought I'd see somebody who wants to be both Elphaba and Christine
Then again I want to play both Evan Hansen and Marius which is kind of a comparable contrast

Completely fair on account of just how good her material is
I've been begging my voice coach to let me sing On My Own for a recital
Apparently when I sing it the connotation is very gay and that's not okay for my area
