They’re referring to the 2006 film version. Instead of the Act 2 Las Vegas production number that shows audiences how huge they’ve become, in the film they show this via Deena sitting in a screening room watching a montage. No production number whatsoever. This lavish Act 2 opener is still in all stage productions. It wasn’t included in the film version.

Brody, not sure if you’re referring to what I said (I’m a bit confused by the conversation lol) but both productions of “Dreamgirls” I’ve seen since the movie came out have put “Listen” in place of that entire confrontation segment with Effie and Deena.

I think I've got the following right (?).
On opening night of the original Broadway production Act II began with a Dreamgirls Hits Medley.
During the run of the original Broadway production the Act II opener was replaced with a reprise of We're Your Dreamgirls.
In the 2009 tour the Act II opener was replaced with What Love Can Do.
In the 2016 West End production it was replaced with a long version of Love Love You Baby.

If my memory serves me correctly that looks about right morosco.
In Sheryl Lee Ralph's autobiography, she stated that she was not happy that the Act II revision that was created for the L.A. premiere of the show was put into the Broadway production because they only had but so much time to learn it before putting it into the show, it was a very rushed rehearsal over a long weekend.
That particular version kept on being revised. I think the "locked" version is the one that appears and on the Dreamgirls 2001 Concert Recording.
I did not care for Linda Leilani Brown at all. She certainly looked the part but she couldn't sing to save her life.

No she could not sing. And she never really seemed to bond with anyone else on stage. It was if she was performing the show alone. I always wondered if she had some kind of casting advantage simply because she looked eerily similar to Diana Ross.

When Ralph left the show Rashad hoped to get the role of Deena but Michael Bennet decided to cast Linda Leilani Brown. Disappointed, Rashad left the show. I wonder how she would have been as Deena? Had she ever gone on for the role?

I believe Rashad did go on during Ralph’s vacation, but as you said, when Ralph left the show for good Bennett opted to give the role to Brown as he never seriously considered Rashad as a permanent replacement.
As great as that original production was, there were some really shady things going on behind the scenes. Ralph suffered mistreatment from Bennett, so much so that it caused a great deal of stress and she lost a good amount of weight because of it. By the time she left the show she was resentful of what she was put through.

Looking back at the list for the 1982 Tony’s, how did Loretta Devine not get a nomination? I don’t think I’ve heard anyone speak on her snub. Was it a shocker at the time!

The lack of a nomination does not always mean it's a "snub". She just didn't make it into the top 4 that year (there were only 4 nominees back then). That was the year of NINE -- which (rightfully) took care of 3 of the nominees (winner Lilianne Montevecchi, Karen Akers, and the fantastic Anita Morris) and the 4th was Laurie Beechman in what could arguably be considered a leading role as The Narrator in JOSEPH... Who would you have eliminated to make room for Loretta Devine?
