So.. while listening to the CD, 22 tracks and all, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was a little upset that Sutton, nor anyone, had a big "show-stopper" piece.
The show is very classical, and very simple. Cute story.
What do you all think?
I don't like the score really - I like the show, but not the show within a show.
Good recording, though. Enjoyable.
I really liked "Show Off."

I think munk's use of the word "enjoyable" is perfect. I listened to it straight through the other day, and found the score to be somewhat weak. Fun, yet weak. Some of the songs are catchy, and Bob Martin's bits are quite humorous. A good listen.
I listen to it alot
It is just what it is mean't to be
and very Humable
and the humor is so translated to the CD
Congrats on winning the TONY for Best Score!
I can't stop listening to it, but im a sucker for old 20's musicals anyway.

I agree with Munk. I really don't like the score, but the recording is enjoyable.
But I got it the day before I got the Wedding Singer OBCR, and I haven't listened to Drowsy since.
the show loses some of it's gloss when you can't see it performed but i had a good time with it. i still remembered liking it a lot more when i saw it then when i played it on my home stereo
Very well done CD. Well recorded, the artwork and packaging were great. I was quite pleased.
Yet another great CD from sh-k-boom.
I watched the show on Sunday and listening to the recording right now. Its a dream. Bob Martin is hilarious. Beth Leavel, Danny Burstein all jump out at me and recall the smile on my face in the theatre.
The Bride's Lament is a take on Rose's Turn right? With the breakdown and lyrics from all over the show? Just that its not quite 1920s is it?
Cant wait to see it again next year or in London (John Barrowman would be ideal for the Groom!)
RE the Bride's Lament thing....I was thinking it was a take on Rose's Turn as well. In Show Off, the "I don't wanna ride moons no more" made me think of MAME. I don't know if they threw that in there on purpose, though.
I like the recording a lot. Everyone sounds great on it, and they really make the most of the songs. Bravo!
I also loved the booklet. Too funny.

Worth buying, still trying to decide
I adore it. It's a lovely tribute to those of us who live and breath cast recordings...
Unlike The Wedding Singer. I saw it in Seattle, tried to give it another chance with the Cast Recording , but cannot even get through the CD. Blech.
I love the album and the show as well. Most of the humor translates well to the CD. I have to say that my one slight disappointment is "As We Stumble Along." This is my favorite number in the show, and the recording is much weaker than the live version. But that's why it's "live theater."

I saw the CD on Amazon, but it only had 12 tracks. Out of curiousity, could someone please list the 22 tracks? Thanks!
I bought Drowsy & Wedding Singer yesterday. Wedding Singer is getting much more play.

I havene't seen the show yet and I think that this cast album is a great preparation for next Sunday.
I got the CD in the mail yesterday and have listened to it 3 times already. I find it quite enjoyable. I love Kicia Lewis-Evans' voice.
Although I enjoyed the show, the CD reminded me how much more could have been done with it. I personally would have liked a big tap number, but that's just me.

I'm not the hugest fan of the show- but it's cute and fun. I found that the tunes were very hummable because they seemed so familiar. I could swear that I've heard the tune for "Show Off" before, as well as a couple of others- in fact I found myself humming along (in my head) to the tunes while I was hearing them for the first time. Could this be because they're going for such a recognizable 1920s sound that the tunes sound familiar, or am I crazy?

GET THE CD! First of all, it won Best Tony for Book and Music. Secondly, it's a preservation of a fantastic, fun, frothy, festive, frisky (I'm running out of 'f' words!) show.
Thirdly, how can you NOT enjoy the music and bits of story.
It's for sure a real pick me up, and I listen to it on my cardio walks and laugh out loud..people think I am nuts, but who cares?!
Buy it simply to support a great show and the 'novel' concept of a completely original Broadway musical.
(Get's down off soap box, plugs in Ipod and trots away)
yeah, when i first heard Show Off, it reminded me of "Let's Do It" by Cole Porter. Am I the only one?
Not yet, oh_so_trendy... but I bought it yesterday, and made my friend who had not seen the show listen to it. I agree, it doesn't have as much spark when you don't have the visuals in your head, but it's still quite cute. There are only a few musicals, I think, that you can fully enjoy from the cast recording.

I do the same thing! I explained to the guy what I was listening to, and he understood, but everyone else thinks I'm on something (but that's not new)
It's very catchy, funny and slightly moving when you get to that final reprise of "As We Stumble Along." I really enjoyed it.

I agree. This is a fun CD, and while Wedding Singer has been getting many listens, this will completely take over. Just one question: Why is Message From A Nightingale as a bonus track? Just add in some Man in Chair dialouge at the beginning and end and it could fit right in...
