Ha WIckedrocks, when the ticket handover happened last night, we were literally standing back to back in the lobby on our cell phones trying to locate each other getting lousy reception!
Glad you liked the show! Am looking forward to seeing it myself soon.

Pal,
Was it all them Puerto Ricans hooting and hollering?

Posted: 4/7/12 at 2:51pmOf course not, you know it was those Caucasian theatergoers. They have NO IDEA how to act in public.

Yeah I saw this rotund white woman wearing a black and silver Ricky Martin t-shirt totin a sack o macs in one hand and a big gulp

Posted: 4/7/12 at 4:24pmI saw it last Thursday, and the audience behaved like any other. The standing O at the curtain started when Cerveris took his call, built for Martin, and peaked for Roger. I was actually surprised, having heard that everyone including the Mistress got a bigger response than Roger. But it really wasn't true the night I saw it.

The mistress barely got a response when I saw the show. The audience stood for Martin and remained standing.
It's fascinating hearing the first hand accounts of LuPone's performance from both folks on the board and in Patti's book. It makes me think the internet has greatly harmed some of the mystique of theatre going.
There are times I miss the element of surprise that used to be present. Now we have full reports from the first preview and every show thereafter.
LuPone was afforded A LOT of discretion during her EVITA run that is no longer available to stage actors. There may have been talk but it was in small circles and certainly never reached across the country and globe.
Now every performance is vivisected. How would LuPone have fared with fans if she were performing EVITA in the internet age?

Posted: 4/8/12 at 1:29amNot an exaggeration at all, PJ. People around me were waving and swinging flags from various Latin countries. It was pretty insane.

Posted: 4/8/12 at 1:45amEvita was at the beginning of my playgoing life and, actually, there were press reports about LuPone's problems. Even though i was a kid, I knew that there were rumors of LuPone being replaced by Klausner on the road. Of course, it's nothing like today. But there's always been Broadway gossip. The NYT used to have a Friday column dedicated to it, before the NY Post took the lead.

Do they give discounts for Latinos to see this show or is everyone else making money than me? If anything, this article will inspire more people to eschew theater etiquette:
Latinas at Evita Broadway

Latinos (and everyone else) make more money than you.
And all that article points out is that Ricky Martin's fans have made the extra effort to come and see him and show their support. When was that against the law?
I'm tired of coming on here and reading these veiled comments from some of you regarding Latino audiences.

OUCH! MB that really hurt!
I saw "Evita" on Friday night and loved it. The theatre was packed. Nothing unusual noted here. No flags waving or anyone doing the tango in the aisle. Everyone was truly focused on some brilliant performances on the stage. I believe all the actors got the applauds, cheers and ovations that they rightly deserved. I for one shouted an extra "Bravo" to Max Von Essen who dazzled me with his performance.

I was there Sat. matinee. The highlights for me was Potter, Cerveris and the lighting.
DeCicco was good, especially in the beginning. Martin was good, but I didnt care for the "everyman" idea. I know he was directed that way, but there was little anger/frustration with the tale he was narrating.
Potter's voice was delicious, and I usually find the Mistress' song annoying.

I am happy to see that Evita has been absent on TKTS!!! Hope they continue to sell out their run to whomever wants to see it.
I love Ricky's butt too, and saw it twice already from premium seats (the only way I will see this show to hear the wonderful voices before the amplification), but I save my hooting and hollering for the curtain call - that's what it's there for.

Posted: 4/9/12 at 1:02pm^ That is why I generally avoid weekend performances of any show. Every Saturday or Sunday show I've seen in the past 20 years has had audiences like that.
