In the fantasyland inside my head, we'd get a whole issue like the Oscars or Grammys. sigh. should I be grateful they mentioned them at all?
Yes, you should. EW is the only national mainstream magazine left covering theatre on a fairly regular basis. Time Magazine only reviews a few shows a year these days, and does an occasional feature, and Newsweek barely covers the theatre at all anymore. EW's Stage column makes fairly regular appearances, and they even manage to sneak theatre into their News and Notes section, as well as offering periodic theatre spotlight features.
Here are mine:

What's odd about Time Magazine is that while they rarely publish reviews, they always still have a top ten list of theatre at the end of the year. Isn't that strange?
Yes, Margo, I've noticed that as well. It is strange.
The lead critic of Time, Richard Zoglin, comes to see everything, and loves the theatre. He is, however, hampered by his editors who do not want to cover theatre, apart from the major fare. Even his top 10 list has only run on the Time website the last few years, not even in the magazine.
This year, for EW's end-of-the-year Best list, I noticed they included the DC production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE. However, I don't remember them ever publishing a review on it. Not really that out of the ordinary, but it caught my attention.

Sounds like Zoglin has a fantastic job. He gets a salary I presume (or does he get paid by the piece?) and sees every show here and around the country for free, but he rarely has to ever bother to write a review (talk about no deadline pressure). He writes one every month or two and then comes up with a top ten list at the end of the year. That's it?
How do I get this job?
BEST LEADING ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
Should and Will: Norbert Leo Butz! DEFINITELY!!!
MEF - completely agree...although, for Musical I would like should: DRS/Piazza
I haven't seen Piazza, but if it's as good as the score - go Piazza! (Though sad Yazbek gets screwed again!)
I was randomly thinking of the past few SHOULDS & WILLS of EW and wanted to know if anyone can remember the past few.
I know last year was
MUSICAL:
Should: Caroline, or Change
Will: Wicked
Anyone?
wickedrocks-
Another one was...
Best Actor (Musical)
Should: John Tartaglia
Will: Hugh Jackman
I just remembered:
PLAY:
Should: Frozen
Will: I Am My Own Wife
ACTRESS (Musical):
Should: Tonya Pinkins, Caroline, or Change
Will: Idina Menzel, Wicked
Remember any from the year before?

If you can tell me what the dates were of the issues (or an estimate), I might be able to find it.
Well, if Im correct, last years Tonys were on June 6th, the year before on the 7th and the year before on the 8th and the predictions came out in the magazine that came out the week before the ceremony.
