What are some shows that are easy to win their lottery? Someone said Rent was fairly easy because it's been around for 12 years. I bet In the Heights will be packed because of it likely to win Best Musical in the Tony's tomorrow. What about Mamma Mia, Spring Awakening, etc? I am going in a few days, and I just want to know what the easiest ones are.
Spring Awakening and Mamma Mia do not have lottery...they have rush...at least I think MM does rush since I do not know anyone who had any desire to see that show.
Out of the lotteries Hairspray and RENT are usually the easiest to win.
The rush for Hairspray seemed easy enough to me. I went on a Wednesday matinee and not enough people signed up (there are 20 lotto seats in the front row) so the guy spun the wheel, called out a name and said "Congrats, you've all won."
I also won Young Frankenstein a few months ago on a Saturday matinee. I was the third person called and my friend (who also entered to double our chances) was the fifth name called.
I tried the YF lottery for Saturday night, but I found out there was no lottery. I searched all over the McDonalds and found no one administering the lotto. I asked a McDonalds employee and she said it would be at 6. I then went to the box office and asked, and the box office employee said they don't do it on Saturday nights. I just reread the lotto information from Young Frankenstein's Web site, and it does not say that they do not do it on Saturday nights. Has this always been the case? I felt like a fool running around in the rain to a nonexistent lottery. Updated On: 6/15/08 at 12:19 AM
I did the in the heights lotto for yesterdays matinee, there were about a good 50-60 people there. I did win, and absolutely loved the show, good luck if you do try to lotto it this week.
And to answer legally_populars question, I rushed SA this past wed and got a ticket around 12:30 for the matinee, and there were still some empty rush seats when the curtain went up.
SA's rush tickets are all over the place. sometimes you might get a stage seat. I've rushed it plenty of times and have gotten one of the boxes, 2nd row, front row, row p, but almost always the rush tickets are located on the extreme right and left sides of the orchestra.
I think everyone has a feeling In the Heights will win Best Musical tonight. And if it does, it will be packed for the next few weeks, so I'm not gonna do that Lottery. I'm gonna try RENT and Young Frankenstein.
i don't live in NYC so i'm new to the whole rush concept, but my friend and I are visiting in august and want to see as many shows as possible for cheap. we already have tickets for some night shows, but want to know if matinees have rush/lotto etc and how do these things work?
