Great review, Emcee.

I have to admit, Little Women worked for me. I must say I've never read the book (I am truly ashamed) but at no time during the show did I feel I missed anything.
Maybe if I had read the book I would have spotted the gaps etc more.

I'd just like to point out that although I can see how good Sutton is in the part and how she'll definitely get a Tony nomination for this and how beautifully she sings etc, her 'goofyness' (which is needed for the part) irritated me occasionally. That's just me, I guess.

The true star of the show is Maureen McGovern. Her Days Of Plenty deeply touched me and received the strongest and longest applause of the evening when I saw it. The audience went crazy after that song. What a performance.

Great Review!

I also love this show and I am seeing it again this Saturday night and I can't wait! I hope there aren't any understudies.

I agree with most of your points. I saw it and enjoyed it but wasn't thrilled or anything (except with the amazing sutton). And on the tony subject, I'm thinking definetly nomination. And you said something about it not screaming that she will win. Unfortunately, I think that is the material she had to work with. I don't notice it much, and even I thought the book was bad.

Exactly. I don't think it's *her* fault so much as it's the material. She's doing everything she can for it. I think she will win, to be honest, because the competition doesn't look very stiff at all.

Great review, Emcee! I agree thoroughly! What performance were you at? I saw it last Saturday, also with Laurie's understudy.
Maureen McGovern was indeed great...but since when do candles dance? And why would anyone want to dance like one?? Unless of course she was referring to Lumiere...

Excellent review, Emcee! I love how so many people's opinions differ on this particular show. I for one loved it, some like it, and others hated it.

And as for the Tony: I hope Sutton wins. So far it looks as though her competition would be Victoria Clark & Christina Applegate. Sherie Renee Scott's role isn't very large, from what I've heard, so she may be up for featured. Either way, I hope Sutton takes it home again this year. She's working her ass off up there on that stage eight times a week and should be rewarded.

No, Sherie Rene can't possibly be up for lead actress, unfortunately. Hopefully she gets a nod for featured, though.

Ellie, I went 2/15 - Tuesday night.

QM, you must read the book. It's 10x better than the musical.
From what I've heard, it seems the Tony race is between Sutton and Victoria Clark. I haven't seen either of them so I really can't judge, but I'm going to give my opinion anyway: I'd kind of like to see Clark sneak away with a win. Although I'm betting on Sutton.

I will make sure to read your reviews before seeing any show! Such eyeopeners!

I'm new to most Broadway outside of Adam (re: Emcee's LITTLE WOMEN review) but am planning to see this show. Is Sutton Foster Hunter Foster's {edited here 'cause it just sounded pathetic} SISTER?
They look like they could be twins!

Actually, Sutton is Hunter Foster's SISTER! Lol. But I knew what you meant, and yes, she is.

Ellie, I went last saturday also with Laurie's understudy. Were you at the night show?

I definitely agree with you, except I liked Jenny Powers' Meg. I wrote a critique about it for school.

Well, the point of Meg is that she's boring. Jo is unconventional; she sticks out like a sore thumb, but in a period when women were *supposed* to be like Meg, the contrast was really important. I just wish she'd done a little bit more; she could've given Meg a teeny bit more personality than treating her like a slab of cardboard.

We just got back, and absolutely loved it !!! Really surprised me cause we had to read the book in HS, and I hated it with a passion ! However, the show has the "Sutton Factor". She is amazing !!! Will definitely be revisiting this one !

I saw the show this afternoon, really liked it, with a couple of flaws. Guess I was right about my prediction.

I saw it this past Saturday night. I thought Sutton was great..I agree, at LEAST a nomination. Megan McGinnis was adorable!! Her and Sutton's ballad sounded beautiful. I, personally, didn't like Amy McAlexander. I know the character of Amy is supposed to be annoying, but when she was older I didn't find her very convincing....she just seemed awkward. And her scene with Danny Gurwin just seemed really forced...but that's probably not their fault, that song was god awful. And I thought Danny Gurwin was ADORABLE, and he was so nice after at the stage door! I may be biased though, I'm a huge "Little Women" fan and I've always wanted Jo & Laurie to end up together!!
All in all, I enjoyed it, but I'm a big fan of the book. Some of it was a little over-sentimental, but I thought (for the most part) the actors did a good job with the material they were given (especially Sutton & Danny, IMHO).

Why thank you, emcee :)

I haven't gotten a chance to see LW yet, but it won't be too long, I hope. I love sutton, and while I've heard that she IS overacting, I am still VERY excited to see her.

As zoser, John > Mickey...agreed?

LittleRed-I saw the show this past Sat. night and stagedoored too! Maybe we saw eachother.
I thought Sutton was overacting a little more than usual on Sat, because I had never thought she overacted before, but she is still wonderful!
