Wow, the things that happen while you're seeing Johnny T's last performance...
So! Emcee and I BOTH won the RENT lottery. I know it's really nothing to brag about, but it furthers the fact that I really AM lucky and/or lucky by association, even thought Emcee claimed she would never win anything.
The show:
Drew - I think the robot thing can be attributed to a complete lack of acting skills. He could hit the notes, but his enunciation was DEFINITELY annoying, grating even.
Cary - Excellent. He had a REALLY great voice and some nice, but subtle, riffs thrown in Glory and in a couple of other places. He definitely suprised me a LOT. Not that I was expecting him to be bad, but he really impressed me. There were certain points where I was thinking he wasn't going to be able to sustain a note (the big "Mimiiiiiiii" in "Your Eyes" comes to mind), but he did with no problem, so that was nice.
Karmine - There was a definitely a break, as Emcee pointed out, when she switched from “Ooooo” to “uuuuuut.” Other than that, I have no complaints. Her energy was really up there, and she did a great job of getting sicker and sicker in the second act. Her “Goodbye Love” was really good.
Justin WAS in fact a great Angel. His energy was OUT of control, though he kind of stole focus when he was dying in the background. Not to sound completely uncompassionate, but I was distracted more than once when there was another scene going on.
Kelly was an excellent Maureen. Really crazy. Great voice, it reminded me a lot of Idina. I thoroughly enjoyed. I really liked Merle, too. The two of them really had some excellent belts.
Caren Lyn….sigh. a) HOLY SH*T. SHE IS HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Moving on, she sang the “To dance!” part in La Vie Boheme B (“No way to make a living…”) and it just made me wish I could see her as Maureen or especially as Mimi that much more.
The ensem was good. Squeege Man hit some hot note at the end of one the songs. It was funny to see Colin pushing drugs to everyone after seeing him play quite a different role at Easter Rising.
The “I’ll Cover You” reprise, didn’t really do it for me

, but he wasn’t bad.
The end.
Andrew, tonight isn't about you! It isn't even about me!!! - [FD]
