You can see how Bernie fought to keep her on, but Heather and Paul just didn't want a Jewish Elle.
I'm more convinced than ever than MTF3 is either a mod or someone who works for BWW. It's fascinating charges of these Legally Blonde folks being anti-Semites stand, but tell the truth about a certain Legally Blonde actor's age and all hell breaks loose.
"So-and-so smokes, and their voice is fine!" is a retarded argument. If your voice is your living, you owe it to your voice, yourself, your audience to NOT DO ANYTHING TO ENDANGER IT. Smoking, dairy, caffeine, hanging out in dusty environments, alcohol, inhaling feathers, whatever; some of these things are proven to damage your voice, some of these things apparently don't do as much damage as we think, but if your voice is your living, you should look after it as much as possible. Just because smoking hasn't damaged your voice doesn't mean it's an excellent thing to do.
I'd point out that Winston is relatively young and not belting out 8 shows a week (as far as I'm aware!). If he gets into musical theatre, has a successful career, and keeps smoking, we'll see how his voice is when he's thirty, forty, and beyond. Let's find someone of equal age and ability who refuses to smoke, also gets into musical theatre, and has a successful career, and we'll see how their voice is when they're thirty, forty, and beyond. I guarantee that one of them will eventually have messed up vocal chords, while the other one is wowing the crowds well into pensionable age. And the latter one won't be Winston (or this theoretical version of Winston I have dreamed up for the purpose of making my point).
tl;dr - just because some people do it doesn't make it any less of a terrible idea. Respect your voice; don't light up twenty cigarettes a day and then expect your voice to always be there when you need it.
Hooray for Emma!!!! I seriously don't understand how people seem to think that they know someone from watching a television show that was edited whithin an inch of it's life. As someone who actually is friends with her I can tell you that her personality is nothing like what you saw on that show. She is one of the kindest and most generous people that I have ever met. As far as talent, Emma is actually a talented singer and actress who has never claimed to be a dancer. Did I think that was reflected in on the show? No, but since I have shared the stage with her I know her true abilities. In closing, while she has been given a couple of opportunities because of her father, she has had to prove herself even more because of her father. Updated On: 10/9/08 at 01:58 PM

I always liked putting my thesis at the end of the first paragraph, too.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

mtf3 I think you need to know this. Even if you feel Emma was treated unfairly on LB: The Search for Elle, this does not mean that Paul and Heather were in any way anti-Semitic. If someone was voted off a talent show and happened to be Jewish, why, I would look to her ability, rather than her Jewish ancestry, for the reason why.
Don't bandy about terms like that so easily. It is demeaning to Jewish people worldwide.
I actually worked with Emma back in 2002 in a show called "Out of the Blue", a silly musical about high school kids and their parents. I have no idea what she's like now, but back then she was a very talented, energetic, very professional young lady who had a very nice voice and showed signs of talent as an actress. Her dancing was suspect but then again, so was the choreography. She got a good review from the Times, about the only thing which did. I don't remember the name of her female teacher, a bombshell from Texas with a great voice and amazing talent who, I'm afraid, went back to Texas when the show was over to tend to her own kids. Bill Tatum (a very strong actor in his own right) was in it as well, whom some know as the spouse of Karen Ziemba. Jerry Zaks never came to rehearsals at all, but as a parent was very supportive. She was a good kid, I hope she does well.
All day I have been trying to imagine her singing "Broadway"... I just can't picture it, not that she'll be bad, I just need to see this because I don't know what to think...

Couldn't y'all see Paul squirming in his chair and Heather trying her best not to catch Jew? Paul deserves a special TONY award for his ability to perform in LB with so many Jews (Kritzer? Kittrell?) You'd think Heather as a writer would be able to veto any casting and would have just kept them out of the show altogether...
I love the justification that Heather and Paul being gentiles on a show that voted a show with a Jew off automatically makes them antisemitic. Priceless.
I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be allowed to adopt kids and we should all have hybrid cars doesn't mean I don't love America.

No offense people but this is Gypsy. We aren't talking about "A Chorus Line" or "42 Street" it's "GYPSY!" There isn't that much dancing AT ALL. What dancing is so challenging that she can't do? I'd love to know.

I don't know which one is Geraldine, but I'll will try to spot her the next time I see the show. And before the show, I need to go see her name on the cast board, because I'm still having a hard time believing this is true.
I agree that you can't judge her based off the show. Celina Carvajal came off like she couldn't sing at all in the show but she was awesome in Bedbugs at NYMF.
I had the chance to meet Emma at the stage door of gypsy back in January and I have to say she couldn't have been sweeter!!! The also sweet Laura Benanti brought Emma up things we wanted her to sign and after the show she came out with every one of them signed with nice messages and took pictures with us! I didnt get to see her as June (Which is ok because I liked Leigh Ann just as much) but I did see her in the chorus and she was really good!
umm no... i am NOT mtf3. noticed how i said "like leigh ann just as much". mtf3 sed they liked emmma more. Also obviously emma zaks is their fav. notice how my name is "kristinchenofan" not "emmazaksfan". I dont even know mtf3. I just met emma in january, saw this post and wanted to write it. and when i met her she was VERY nice.
