re: Emmy from Phantom

You know, the role of Christine doesn't exactly provide grounds for showing a wide range of emotions.

And I think Emmy was 19 when she made the 'Phantom' movie.

"but i wouldnt want her or emmy to play a role created for a star like sarah brightman"

Hee hee hee. People who can't spell or write proper sentences are funny.

re: Emmy from Phantom

I'll admit she may not be the best actress ever but I think she is talented at least as a singer. Plus, ya'll have to remember that in a movie it's harder to make people look younger so she just isn't as trained as those who play Christine on stage.

re: Emmy from Phantom

She's better then a lot of people think. She played the charater the way in which the movie was designed-which is not like the stage version.

And personally I don't listen to Hilary Duff at all and no nothing about her music, BUT she's a great little actress. Very good for what she is.

re: Emmy from Phantom

JohnPapa- she was 16 years old when she did the movie close enough re: Emmy from Phantom

She is CERTAINLY not Hilary Duff. Emmy Rossum I thought was magnificent. Pretty, great actress (hello her in the huge green skirt before the last show when she's crying in the church area and Raoul comes to console her) and a GREAT singer. GREAT singer. The Day After Tomarrow also showed her talentes greatly. HAve you seen any of her other movies muscle? She's great!

Plus I highly doubt someone who wasn't a good singer would be performing at the Metropolitan Opera at such a young age.

I fully spelled Metropolitan wrong- ignore that.

re: Emmy from Phantom

It pisses me off how she's touted in the media as the next Renee Flemming because she sang at the Met when she was a little kid. I don't think she's a bad singer, but she is not a trained opera singer (no one is at her age!) and based on what I've heard at this point I wouldn't cast her in anything tougher than Gilbert and Sullivan. Maybe she'll develop, maybe she won't, but it's simply invalid to claim that anyone is a fully formed classical singer at the age of 19 or 20. And, honestly, lots of kids sing in the Met Children's Chorus. It's not playing Tosca, it's being herded onstage for one or two choruses.

Sorry if that was a rant. I'm very protective of classical music's honor.

I'm no expert but I've heard 15 year olds trained as opera singers... but I can see where you're coming from.

Still though..impossible?

re: Emmy from Phantom

Most of what I know about classical singing comes from a friend of mine who's an amazing soprano and is studying opera in Florence right now. She's 22 and says she still is finding what kind of voice she's going to eventually have. Look at the opera world: how many singers have become really famous before 30 (other than Cecilia Bartoli)? It's not that you can't be trained at an early age, it's just that it takes a long time for your voice to fully develop. You can be 30 and still eligible for "young artist" programs. Sorry I can't be more technical and specific, I'm not a singer myself.

What if your friend is an idiot and is feeding you a bunch of pretentious nonsense?

re: Emmy from Phantom

Liz Bennett- WOAH FLORENCE COOL.

But I seriously have heard 15 year olds who could sing professionally in operas who were freakin amazing. I'm not an expert or anythig, but I know they could do it they sounded more like 30.

But I wouldn't really know.

re: Emmy from Phantom

I think that Emmy Rossum did an awful job in the movie... her acting and singing were both impossible to watch. It was just annoying knowing that there were so many other people out there who could have done a much better job than her. she also seems really suck up to me... "I'm going to create a new genre of hip-hopera and it's going to be really popular"

I think Hilary Duff, Haylie Duff are both extremely not talented.

We need more talented singers in the entertainment industry, because I do have high standards because the toughness into getting a lead role on Broadway.

And I heard there are a ton of producers worried about meeting your high standards when casting actors.

re: Emmy from Phantom

The only problem I had with Emmy's attitude was when she said that thing about damaging her lips or what not after kissing Patrick a zillion times. SHE SHOULD NOT BE COMPLAINING!

anyhoo I still think she did very well

re: Emmy from Phantom

JohnPopa- I'd rather listen to my friend sing than Emmy Rossum any day.

By the way, Emmy's acting skills are probably fine for a career in opera. I love acting opera singers and the standards are rising, but they still aren't exactly numerous.

JohnPopa - I didn't mean that the producers had to impress me, I'm just saying that the hollywood industry movie musical business is failing to impress me with their choices in who they are choosing...

re: Emmy from Phantom

Really? I think Christine's role is very boring acting wise. There really isn't much to work with.

And Emmy was entertaining, which was point.

re: Emmy from Phantom

I did not like her as Christine. Whatever she was doing, that was not opera. Also, her delivery and facial expressions were bland, for the most part. Her best scene was "Wishing You Were Somehow...". Other than that, I don't know how she got a Golden Globe nod over other much better performances.

re: Emmy from Phantom

I thought Emmy did a decent job for the movie. I mean she did exactly what the film was set out to do: young and pretty, but not necessarily oozing with talent. I can't see her doing the stage show though.
