Very moving and the accompaniment still gets me teary.

thank God some of you listen to things older than 5 years, I was about to scream and scratch my face until Mythus said The Impossible Dream..........that has to be #1, for what the poster asked for....

you know there were musicals written be 1990........

ok. so don't shoot me if these have been suggested, buuuuut

I love the "OMG, I'm SOOO HERE" songs.

i.e. "If they could see me now" Sweet Charity, duh. lol

and I'm not sure on the title, but "Here I am"?? from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I'm working on the one from drs for a pageant coming up.

OH! how about "Hold On" From Secret Garden? Another fave of mine, though in a slightly different vein.

A personal favorite: "Being Good" From HALLALUJAH, BABY! Sung to perfection by Lesley Uggams on the OBC. It has a stunning end, with words "I'll be the best -- or nothing at all" -- and manages to not sound cliche.

More mainstream: "I Can Go The Distance" from the cartoon HERCULES. Actually, not a bad song at all, written by LITTLE SHOP'S gifted composer, to give it cred.

Great thread! Lots of good ones mentioned, wanted to add some that well maybe you hafta be a little accepting to put into this category, but I see aspects in them of most...a couple definitely fit

I love all these songs and previous ones mentioned, I listen and sing them a lot in my own life when I'm facing difficult times.
