Amazon says October 30, but the cast album website at http://castalbums.org/recordings/Lady-Be-Good-2015-Encores-Concert-Cast/29488 says October 16
I would imagine the Amazon release date is more accurate though it may be released digitally on the 16th.
it never ceases to mistify me as to which Encores! productions attract attention for a recording. Why does Sh-K-Boom wish to record Lady, Be Good! while the wonderful recent casts of A New Brain and The Wild Party (just from this season, not mentioning the many fantastic productions of years past) go unrecorded (and many would be loved by many fans). I suppose of course the issue is money, but the subject still baffles me regarding which productions are chosen.

gypsy, you seem to be confusing your Encores. I don't think any of the Off Center shows get recorded.
Lady Be Good, as well as Paint Your Wagon, are the actual season Encores shows, which get recorded quite frequently.
I'm excited for the Paint Your Wagon cast album but they don't seem to have announced which label it will be on so I'm wondering if it's still happening. Did they even record it yet? I haven't seen any updates about it.
Ah yes, I forgot those were off-center. Even still, the productions from their regular seasons obviously are not usually recorded (this is the 14th Encores! recording and Face the Music was the only concert recorded between 2000 and 2011) so the odds are against any Encores. why Lady Be Good and not the others? That's what I wonder.

It's based on what has a good recording. There's not a complete or good recording of Lady Be Good or Paint Your Wagon so somebody put up the money. Seems pretty obvious to me. Paint Your Wagon was recorded but I don't know who did it.
"Face the Music was the only concert recorded between 2000 and 2012"
What are you talking about? Merrily We Roll Along, Pipe Dream & Gentleman Prefer Blondes were all recorded. That's an entire season of recordings from 2011-2012.

I agree that some of the recordings are seemingly random but I bet it's the same deal with Broadway cast albums in that a producer or author has the money for a cast album and wants to pay for it. I doubt Kurt or someone at Sh-K-Boom saw Lady Be Good and thought a cast album would be a hot seller. Someone just wanted it and paid for it.

Right, that someone is the Gershwin estate. Because it had never been properly recorded.

There is a complete recording, though some may argue it's not very lively (and I think the mixing is atrocious).
Nonesuch recorded a bunch of Gershwin albums in the 90s including Lady Be Good.

I corrected my year, I meant that 2011-12 season that obviously included the recordings you mentioned.
i guess that makes sense for the Gershwin estate to fund the recording, I'm not home now so I couldn't check my iTunes for an existing recording of Lady Be Good, but it seemed like it would have been recorded by now, you know? Either way, I'm sure the recording will be terrific.

Mr. Nowack, I guess I meant there's not a recording that's up to par with how they want it to be remembered. It will give them a new version to send out for licensing.
gypsy, I just don't understand why you came into this thread to argue points that just aren't true, but OK.

I simply was wondering why this recording of all the Encores that could be recorded, I didn't mean to argue any incorrect point. The answer you gave made sense regarding licensing. (No wonder I forgot about the lackluster existing recording).
CATSNYrevival, they did record Paint Your Wagon. I, too, have been wondering about why its release hasn't been announced, but feel maybe a little better about it since Lady Be Good was earlier in their schedule and is just now getting release details.

Paint Your Wagon is being released by Sony. There isn't a really good recording of either show (Lady, Be Good! or Paint Your Wagon) so I'm looking forward to both. I don't think Encores! or Encores! Off-Center has much say in what is recorded and what isn't -- it's all about funders, and I say hooray for the funders! More recordings are better than fewer recordings. And since I'm a Gershwin fanatic, I'm really excited about Lady, Be Good!
I'm excited too but I do understand the frustration in wishing there had been funders for some other encores cast albums as well.

I agree with that completely. Encores! shows I wish had been recorded: Carnival (with Anne Hathaway!) Golden Boy, Can Can (with Patti), Follies, Stairway to Paradise (with Kristin) Music in the Air, Anyone Can Whistle, Where's Charley? (no good according available at all). As for Off-Center -- I leave that to others.
Whether or not they will ever record an Off-Center Encores! (and they only just had there 3rd season, so I wouldn't say it's impossible in the future -- but I don't know the rules for such things) I would love a new recording of A New Brain starring Jonathan Groff; I've never been a fan of Malcolm Gets. And there's clearly many regular Encores! that would be welcome to join my collection (the number one being The Apple Tree). Oh well!
Mix aside, I love the Nonesuch Lady, Be Good. I listen to it a lot. I think it's the best of that series of Gershwin recordings.
I'm actually excited about this, even though the show is ****, because I love Patti Murin, so this is welcome into my collection. Regarding Gypsy's comments, I agree. I think they have so many good productions that they should at least option to release stuff like "The Wild Party", and other Off-Center shows. Speaking of, have they ever recorded a gala show? I'm dying for them to record Megan Hilty in "Annie Get Your Gun", since tickets are a minimum of $500. I've been secreting it since it was announced.

Unless they're all gone, the cheapest tickets are $35.
Wait, what have you been secreting?? Sounds like a personal problem!

I find it hard to believe that CindersGolightly describes Lady, Be Good! as *****, assuming I've intuited what the four asterisks stand for. The show is an antique, with all that is implied by the team, but it's first-rate Gershwin and a great example of what Broadway did in it's pre-Oklahoma! days. It's historically important, full of great music, and a quite amazing introduction to antic musical theater of the jazz age. Patti Murin, whom I also love, is hardly the point.
