Some shows that may fit into either category:
1.Li'l Abner
2.110 In The Shade
3.I Had A Ball - Imagine this with Lane in the Hackett Role & BSM
in the Kiley role. Think of BSM singing "The Other half of Me
& "The Ficle Finger of Fate". The songs cut for Hackett
because he couldn't "hack it" could be restored for Lane

I think the only cast member so far is Audra McDonald. It is a Roundabout production that will play in Studio 54 in the 2006-2007 season.
Having just recently bought BEN FRANKLIN IN PARIS, I think this would be a great show for Encores to do. It is such a fun score.

i'd like to see a revival of ONE TOUCH OF VENUS...

Posted: 4/20/06 at 7:50pmWell, I do wish Encores! would expand their mission statement and start considering things that closed out of town: lots of very interesting possibilities there: 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE (if Bernstein's estate would ever allow it), LOLITA MY LOVE, GONE WITH THE WIND, etc.

Posted: 4/20/06 at 7:53pmLi'l Abner and One Touch of Venus have been done at Encores. Venus had a recent major production done by Opera North in England that was, I believe, well-received. But I can't imagine it receiving a commercial Broadway revival. And I wouldn't want to see it at the Roundabout with Weill's orchestrations reduced for a seven-piece combo.

Posted: 4/20/06 at 8:13pm"Love Life" by Lerner and Weill. According to theatre scholars and longtime Broadway fans, it was one of the first "concept" musicals and a great and underappreciated one with a terrific score.

Well, I think showcasting failed shows with great music is actually the entire mission statement of Encores, Roxy, but they've "done" just about most of those contenders already.
For the pure novelty and curiosity factor, I wish they would do the 1903 Montgomery/Stone production of THE WIZARD OF OZ.

Musicologist Stephen Banfield (author of Sondheim's Broadway Musicals) is restoring the score of Love Life, the materials of which are apparently in a shambles, in order to create a Critical Edition and pave the way for more productions. After that, perhaps Encores will finally do it. But I think the Weill Foundation has a put a stop on productions and concert versions until that is done.
I think the score is one of Weill's greatest and the show itself is fabulous. Although the Philly production about 12 years ago was awful.

I like your suggestions for Encores Josh, particularly DAY BEFORE SPRING and ARE YOU WITH IT? There is also a really fun jazz version of Cinderella called IF THE SHOE FITS from 1946 that has a great score and would be great.

Side Show
Perhaps a somewhat reconfigured production?
But I would give anything to have Side Show back on broadway!
