End of the Rainbow

Is transferring to the West End!

Will play Trafalgar Studios 17th November - 5th March!

Olivier Award winning star of Hairspray Tracie Bennet returns to the West End Stage in Peter Quilter's new play based on the later life of Judy Garland. Directed by the multi celebrated award winning Terry Johnson, End Of The Rainbow received 5 star reviews and nightly standing ovations on it's pre London run.

It's December 1968 and Judy Garland is about to make her comeback... again. In a London hotel suite with her young new fiancé at her side, Garland battles with a tornado of drugs and alcohol as she undertakes an exhausting series of concerts at the Talk of the Town to try and reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation. Despite a series of failed marriages and a wrecked Hollywood career, Judy remains a tough, compelling, remarkable woman always armed to the teeth with her legendary razor-sharp wit. Featuring a breathtaking performance by Tracie Bennet the production features several of Garland's classic songs.

Brilliant news!
I've been seeing Tracy do her impression of Judy many, many times at numerous party's over the years and can't believe that its now to be seen in the West End lol. Nice one Tracy.

End of the Rainbow

I saw this at the Edinburgh Fringe a few years ago with Caroline O'Connor as Judy. The play was a little lame but of course the songs were great and Caroline was sensational. But I'm a huge fan of Tracy Bennett and the prospect of seeing and hearing her as Judy Garland is mouthwatering!

So this will now move to the top of the list of things for me to see during my planned visit to London in mid-December.

Yes, it's the same one - the play by Peter Quilter that had its world premiere in Sydney (earning Caroline O'Connor a number of awards) and was then done in Edinburgh. No doubt there will have been some rewrites since then and now with the brilliant Terry Johnson on board as director and Tracie adding her magic to it), I'm sure it will be something special.

Yes, I saw Caroline O'Connor too. If there's anyone who can top her, it has to be Tracie. This is a MUST SEE!

End of the Rainbow

I am sure that I saw an earlier version of the same play at Edinburgh Festival with Tracie Bennett several years before the O'Connor version. I am in no doubt that she played Garland in a very similar play. Just can't recall exactly if it was by Quilter but I think it was.
UPDATE - found the info and it is indeed the (extensively rewritten) play by Quilter with a different title. When Bennett did it in Edinburgh in 2003, it was called Last Song Of The Nightingale. I have a feeling in the first version, she wasn't called Garland but sang all the Garland songs.

End of the Rainbow

The one in Edinburgh was called, 'Last Song Of The Nightingale' and has been totally rewritten and new title 'End of The Rainbow'. [Peter Quilter]
I think Tracie's character in the first version was called Martha and didn't have any 'Judy' songs in it. [I don't think]
This one has several. I too saw this new version in Northampton and her performance is amazing and off this planet. You will think you are actually watching Judy....scary.
As one critic wrote about Tracie...'A jaw dropping masterpiece of a performance'....and it is.
I've booked my tickets for the West End one. Don't miss it whatever you do

End of the Rainbow

Yes that's the title and the name of the character though I did think she sang songs associated with Judy and also was in effect playing Judy.

End of the Rainbow

Yes she was in effect playing Judy but Peter Quilter probably hadn't got the rights to her music etc so would have to call the lead character by another name. But everyone knew it was Judy. The new version is totally Judy and her songs...fabulous!!!!!!!!!
