THANK GOD!
Good.
My prayers go out to Christopher Terney and his family.
On the other hand, just imagine how the producers , already deep in the hole, are dealing with this. They must be going crazy.
It's simply an unacceptable situation. No actor should be injured/hurt just to satisfy the creative team's vision. Clearly they can't guarantee the safety of the people involved, my thoughts are with Christopher Terney and his loved ones, I can't imagine what he felt falling without a net, and on top of it, live on stage with hundreds of people watching. Glad that Equity stepped in.
So obviously this means a non equity production will be in the works asap.
Steffi D's tweet:
SpiderMan should sell funnel cakes at intermission and call them deep fried spider webs. Plus, I bet it would distract from the injuries.
lol
Merry Christmas Julie Taymor.
Julie should have gone into politics....she would achieve the same thing. More Spending and hurting the innocent
I never wish for a show to close....buuuuut
Honestly, I just feel so bad for that poor box office staff. Updated On: 12/21/10 at 12:53 PM
^Yikes...forgot about them...expect more injury reports..
I can't make out where the update is in that article. Did they give an indication as to the amount of time? Definite or indefinite?
Actors Equity has released an updated statement which reads "Actors' Equity Association is working with management and the Department of Labor to ensure that performances will not resume until back-up safety measures are in place."
This is just insane. I mean at first everything going on with this show was just ridiculous but now with injury counts going up and peoples' safety in danger I'm just happy the madness is finally being stopped for a while. Best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to the person injured.

Yes, because this one show going wrong negates over a decade of artistic vision. We should close The Lion King right now too, because Julie Taymor is a bad person. Same with The Magic Flute at the Met, and they should just throw out The Tempest before it's release. This is all Julie Taymor's fault, because I've openly hated her for years and Spiderman finally gives me an excuse to denounce her entire career.

PLAYBILL actually has a decent article laying out this whole union mess and their powers. Basically, they can't 'shut down' the show. At least, that's the way I'm reading the article- someone correct me if it says otherwise, please. But it seems their power stops at removing dangerous wires or machinery, but not in preventing the entire production from going on. They are marching in their like a little conquering army, but really they have only a small amount of power here. If the producers/Taymor want the show to go on, it will go on.
"and they should just throw out The Tempest before it's release."
According to the reviews that might not be such a bad idea.
Orangeskittles....there is a fine line between "artistic vision" and just plain stupidity and ego.
Her "vision" has harmed 4 people already...and they are not just "a dance injury" or some freak accident...they are serious safety concerns. How anyone can still be defending this now $70 million show is beyond me.
Well NYT as of a few minutes ago says tomorrows shows are still a go:
“Spider-Man” is scheduled to continue performances with matinee and evening shows on Wednesday. It was not clear who would take over for Mr. Tierney, a veteran dancer and stunt performers who plays the masked Spider-Man in some of the most complicated technical scenes of the musical."

Since I pretty much hated "The Lion King," I think you pretty much nailed it orangeskittles.

26 feet? Broken ribs and internal bleeding...
This sums it up.
Shut it Down
Her entire career should be denounced. Not once has she produced anything better than mediocre. She's produced lots of big, loud, and shiny, but "artistic"? Give me a break.

Her entire career should be denounced? Are you even half-kidding?
I can't imagine the level of stress that the actors and crew are going through right now.
