There are four performances of spongebob this weekend. I have heard Ethan slater was very ill a couple of days ago. I have heard he takes off sundays. Does anybody have inside information. Is he well now? Should we expect him in any performances sat or Sunday?

The Drama Desks awards are tomorrow so Ethan will most likely be out.

It appears he is always missing the Saturday matinees, and then at least one other performance throughout the week, sometimes 3 total.

Well I decided to go tonight - Saturday, thinking that if he was going to be in it would be then.
Nope. He was out. Oh well. Enjoyed the show anyway.

I saw the show during my trip a while back, and he was out for that performance. I don't recall who was on instead and don't have my Playbill handy, but whoever it was gave an excellent performance. It's a great show!

I have tickets for the Saturday matinee after the Tonys.  So sounds like I shouldn’t hope to see him even if he’s healthy? I heard he was missing a lot of shows lately but didn’t know if it was illness related/temporary or an actual predictable pattern.  How does that work with their contracts? I’m confused as to how someone can just low key miss 2-3 shows a week?  (Not being snarky, actually curious given that this is what people on here are saying).

When I saw the show in Chicago, I was blown away by his incredible stamina and charisma.

Maybe the extremely demanding role is starting to take a toll on him.

I don't know the actual reasons for him being out lately, but I know he's been on vocal rest at various points in the run, and some of the notes in his songs were lowered a while back. I can't imagine how he gets through the physical demands of the role along with everything else. 7 months of that is intense. Even when I noticed he was sick, he was still giving 110% on stage, so it absolutely has to be taking its toll.

I noticed they are dropping Sunday evening shows in favor of Weds evenings, perhaps it will be a better schedule for him.

I am rooting for him for the Tonys, so hopefully this isn't detrimental to his chances, as he's phenomenal.

the other thing to keep in mind is that during these few weeks leading up to the Tonys there's a lot more demand on the nominated actors outside of their actual show commitments. Lots of interviews and media stuff to help promote the actor/show. So even their time off isn't really "off"

One imagines he performed at every show where Tony voters were invited.

I went to the Sunday, 6/3 show and he was incredible. I wish I had a fraction of his energy and athletic ability.

I'm seeing the show on June 16th, I'm hoping he'll be in. I'm so excited to see the show!

You're seeing the show the day after Stephanie Hsu, Karen the Computer, leaves for Be More Chill rehearsals! I wonder who the new actress will be as no one is getting bumped up to fill her spot.

It's also worth remembering that not all of the Tony voters wait until May to see the shows; I personally know several who saw it well before nominations were announced.

Are any of the other cast members leaving that day too?

No, just her. However, the cast is already not original as Jon Rua (Hamilton, In The Heights) left and was replaced by Brandon Espinoza as Patchy the Pirate.
