If someone told me to “get a life” I would just bust out singing “I Got Life.”
I think it’s actually kinda the opposite with my friends/family/co-workers. They think of theater as this special, fancy, rare thing so when I come back from seeing a new show they show much interest and excitement. They constantly ask me what new shows I saw, what the shows are about, who’s in them, etc. And some people are pretty wowed with the celebrities I’ve seen and met too. Even people I know who aren’t into theater and have never seen a Broadway show before were anxious to hear about my time at the Tony Awards and see my pictures. I’m the go-to person when it comes to advice on what shows to see and how to go about getting tickets. And when someone I know does go see a show, I’m the first person they have to tell. I’ve even heard comments like, “I wish I could see as many shows as you!” “Let me come with you next time!” and stuff like that.
I guess I’m lucky that the people I share my experiences with don’t roll their eyes or give negative comments. I mean, it’s not like I talk about it non-stop and force everyone to listen to showtunes when we’re hanging out or anything like that, but it’s still nice to tell people about it. Plus, on the flip side, I am nice when listening to others go on and on about the Yankees, movies, etc.
