Thanks! Does she still do the magic during her moving to New York segment?

Yes, but it's a little different, and quite honestly, not as entertaining...it seems a little out of place.
I have yet to see Everyday Rapture (I'm going this week), but You May Now Worship Me was so PERFECT I thought...I hope I like the changes.
I didn't see "You May Now Worship Me", but I really enjoyed "Everyday Rapture". It's probably not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.
If by magic you mean the balloon thing? Yeah.

She does the cup thing too, which was pretty cool. But honestly the whole magic thing seemed weird. The whole show just seemed like a mismash of ideas with no through line to connect it all together. I thought it was going to have an arch to it, but it really didn't. It sort of started with "small town girls moves to the big city" but then it leaps to YouTube and then to her talking about her child and ends.
I agree. I thought it was going to be more upbeat and that I was going to be rolling on the floor with laughter. And I did laugh quite a bit, but it was really serious too, which was surprising.

Personally, I hope that she and Dick Scandlan look over the current script and the script of You May Now Worship Me and realize that last year's script was so much better, and maybe make quite a few changes, which would make the show more upbeat, and much more enjoyable. I think that this show has a lot of potential to be great, it just needs to be more upbeat instead of slow. I'm sure by May they'll find a nice balance between upbeat and the emotion they want to portray.

RentBoy, the "through line" (is that even a word?) was that it followed the character of Sherie Rene Scott from her varied yet strict religious upbringing in Topeka, Kansas to her move to New York and subsequent career success. This is done by exploring her relationships with God, Rev. Fred Phelps, her gay cousin, Judy Garland, her first intimate encounter in NYC (a magician) and her dealing with the fine line between mockery/homage of fans. That is of course a very boiled down listing of the topics covered.
Your posts have made it really clear: you didn't get it.
I saw the show this past Thursday night. I had seen it in its iteration at the LGTB Center (this is pre-"You May Now Worship Me"). I enjoyed both versions immensely. The material is almost all intact but has just become more streamlined with time.
Sherie's brand of humor is an acquired taste. She is able to apply it beautifully when playing a role in a show, but when served raw can be a turnoff to some. I'm intrigued by people using the word "bitchy" when describing her. For starters, she has stated that the SRS in the show is a CHARACTER. On top of that, her snarky semi-jabs are hysterical and played off so well that one would have to be an imbecile to not know she was kidding.
Sherie's vocal performance is, of course, a revelation yet at the same time so effortless that one may not even realize it taking place. With the slight****of her head she can have the audience in stitches and then turn around and within a 15 minute interlude have them crying. Her life is an experience so varied to behold that it is completely relatable.

You sumed that up perfectly logan. I love Sherie's work, and I think she is increadibly funny and is a phenominal actress, I'mjust very upset that the show I saw on Tuesday was not as good as what I saw on March 31 of last year. However, as I said before, I believe with time there will be changes made and it will get better...
Just want to bump my quetion from before: Where are the student rush seats? and are the box seats good or partial view? Which box seats are better closer or furthur from the stage? Thanks!
I think the student rush tickets are just the best that they have available 30 minutes to curtain. I bought a ticket just before two folks who got student seats at about 7:40 on Thursday, and we all ended up in row M. Truth is, there really ISN'T a bad seat in the house. And the people who were in the "box" seats were moved to regular seats anyway.
As for the show, I have to say that I agree with the person who said that it's difficult not to like Sherie in this show. Unfortunately, I also found it difficult to like the show. The song choices are a seriously mixed bag, and the script is terribly lacking. It just beats you over the head with the same points which, while well-connected, are trite, familiar, and uninspired.
The Mr. Rogers/sexual awakening number felt realllllly over the top as though the entire show found a way to wink at you. The moments that rang most true were the ones that worked (unsurprisingly). Eamon's YouTube scene, the discussions of her cousin being sent away, and about the Phelps family were definitely the strongest. But ultimately, it felt like there were 10-15 minutes of great material adrift in a 90 minute show that felt much, much longer.
A great performer who needs better material. Unless you're a big fan already, I'd skip it and hope she finds a great role next time.

I thought the show was AMAZING! The youtube video dragged on a bit much for me, but it was still very brilliant.
Logan ~ Thank you. I was beginning to think *I* wasn't "getting it" because I seemed to be the only one (of those posting) who saw the progression.

Okay first of, it's very condescending to say that I "didn't get it. I understand what the whole show was about, and I get it all, trust me, I do. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. I think it could have been done 10x better. And yes, I understand she's playing a character, but the character is bitchy. I'm sorry, but she says some bitchy comments: "Yes, I'm good friends with all the actresses who replace me in a show." Yes, it's funny, and yes I laughed, but it's also bitchy. I'm a huge fan of hers and her voice is beautiful, but she deserves a better show. This show is just so uneven. When it's good it's great (YouTube), but it also has some just awful moments and the songs don't really stick.
And I don't know if "through line" is a word? But it made sense to use it.
RentBoy86, no offense, but what do you like?
I don't think I've ever seen you review something on this board that you haven't hated.

LOL.
Clearly he likes rent, but you're right, beyond that, it is a mystery. As he seems to complain about EVERYTHING,

This season I've liked .... Tale of Two Cities, Next to Normal, Billy Elliot, Mary Stuart, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, The Seagull, The Cherry Orchard, Toxic Avenger, Becky Shaw, Ruined, Equus, and Exit The King, Story of My Life. (I'm sure I'm leaving something out).
And sorry that I don't just throw out that things are "amazing" and "awesome" and "brilliant." Even the shows I like, I can understand their flaws. I'm an actor and a writer, so I like to question things as much as possible. I like to figure out why I like something as opposed to not liking something. Or what makes a great show great, or what could make a flawed piece better. Sorry, it's just how I am. I don't mean to come off as grumpy. I enjoyed "Everyday Rapture" while I was watching it, but when it ended I just thought "that's it?"

I just got back from Everyday Rapture, once again, and I just wanted to give so much credit to Scanlan and Scott-they have made quite a few changes and for the better-anyone who saw the show on Tuesday needs to see it again, because it is soooo much better than Tuesday. Not only was Ms. Scott performing at a much higher level, but the show was much tighter and more upbeat and I really enjoyed every minute of it! Then end was changed a bit as well-and I really loved every change that they made. Also, the changes really showed Scott off very well, and Foley did not steal the show...that being said, I am still upset about Ms. Scott's singing in the Youtube scene...not only does she not completely sing full out, which is upsetting because I never got to see her in Aida and this is the closest I've got, but it's really different from the version on the OBCR...and that's just personally annoying (she pronounces "via" differently) but that's just nit-picky.....althogther, I think that everyone who saw it in the last week needs to get back there and see it reworked. I really don't think you'll regret it!

You obviously sound like way more of a fan of Scott than I am if you're complaining that her pronunciation of the word "via" is different from a cast recording she recorded how long ago?
It doesn't sound like they've made any major changes though?

It's just more solid. Many facts were added, and many were taken away. She speaks about her weight as a child and the difficutly she has with having a big cheast, the ending is much tighter, she doesn't just walk off-stage and have you wonder if its over, she ends by saying something very roughly like "enjoy the rapture while it lasts" smiles and then goes. The Jesus thing is much shorter, many songs were cut down, it really seemed like a different show.
I am kind of disappointed that there have been changes since the "You May Now Worship Me" performance. I had seen the show before that at The Zipper and I only thought it had improved on what I already thought was a great show.
I'm seeing the show on Tuesday, I'll post my review after.
Also, seeing the show first week of May with a bunch of people who are not familiar with the past versions....I hope it is as entertaining to them as the last version was to me.
Can someone who has seen this let me know the approximate running time, and is there an intermission? Thanks in advance.

It's about an hour and 20 min. without an intermission.
I saw it tonight.
Anyone know how the floating cup trick works?

I know right? I pondered that for a good 5 mins after it happened.
