There is a hook that falls out of the bottle that attaches to the cup, allowing it to suspend in mid-air.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
So...a little late but here is my review of Everyday Rapture.
First, I have to say that I've seen a couple versions of the show, once at the "You May Now Worship Me" benefit and at her work in progress show at The Zipper. Second, I have to admit that I think that seeing a "one night show" creates a certain excitement/energy in both the performer and the audience that is rare in a show that is performed 8 times a week. I know that, as an audience member, there is a certain excitement in seeing a one night only performance and that really resonates with the audience. I may be wrong but that's my humble opinion
That being said, I will echo one or two comments that have already been made. One, the set isn't great. I much preferred the YMNWM set but obviously they were working with the Spring Awakening set. Second, I think that the show could have been little tighter when it comes to the script and connecting each experience but hey, it's still in previews.
However I think that for show in previews, they have done a great job. They have carried over most of what made the benefit last year but there were a couple parts where I thought the segue way could have been smoother. Overall, though, I think if you are a fan of Ms. Scott you will enjoy the show. If you want to hear some funny and touching stories, you will enjoy the show. As one of my friends said, unless you are Fred Phelps, you will enjoy the show (and she's not even into musicals). Not sure how true that is, but I'd still give the show a chance. The discounts and prices for those under 30 are also a plus.
As I think I said, I'll be seeing the show on May 2nd with a bunch of people who now nothing about Ms. Scott so we'll see how that goes. But I hope that they will react as the last two people I brought to versions of this show: blown away and new, enthusiastic fans of Ms. Scott.

I love Sherie's voice and her funny personality but little comes across in this show. She spends far too much time trying to tell the tale of her life -- but frankly her life is just not that interesting. The more dramatic moments of her monologue are about homophobia and Revered Phelps but this just seemed more like pandering than sincere. Is homophobia really the central issue to Sherie's life?
Other than that, a rather uninspired collection of songs that range from stereotypical Garland numbers to easy listening. The show really should be about her voice -- her incredible voice. But not once do you ever really get to hear her knock your socks off. Pleasant but disappointing.
She's wonderful. The script is terrible. Just let the woman SING.
Oh...looked as though that blouse was going to explode. Might want to turn the AC down on stage...Coulda poked our eyes out. Updated On: 5/2/09 at 11:40 PM
Just got back from seeing the show for the second time. I really felt more energy both onstage and off tonight. Plus, they now end with "Up The Ladder" by The Supremes which really showed off Sherie's voice.
Also, I went with about 15 people who had never heard of Sherie before tonight and they absolutely loved the show.

I wouldn't say they changed alot but little things here and there. Things that got a little laugh the first time I saw it now has the the whole or most of the audience cracking up.
