OK I did a search and found tons of Evita Revival posts but none that was specific to the recording. Was just wondering what everyone thought?

I'm overall not a fan. I like that it included "Rainbow Tour" and "The Art of the Possible", and I like Phillip Quast, but Elena Roger must be an acquired taste, as she has a tendency to screech and sounds a lot like Julie Covington on the Studio Cast Album. Also not a big fan of whoever is playing Che, I can't recall his name, and some of the orchestrations (like "A New Argentina") have this overall rock sound that makes it sound more like the movie soundtrack.

Plus, it's a highlights disc. I hate that, regardless of how good/bad the show is.

I LOVE the new orchestrations!! I think they are gorgeous!

Elena is awesome. I hope she comes to Broadway.

I think Elena is terrific on some tracks - "Buenos Aires", "You Must Love Me", "Good Night and Thank You" - and only OK on others - "A New Argentina", "Rainbow High", "Lament"

Matt Rawle is OK - he's nothing special.

Quast is great with what little he gets to sing. "Suprisngly Good for You" rocks.

the orchestrations are also terrif- specially on "Buenos Aires".

but seriously, it's a highllights CD, and a lousy one at that - considering they skip a REAL important and great number with "Rainbow Tour".

If anyone cares to know, the revival cd is being distributed over here in the states starting Tuesday, so you can get it then without paying a fortune for shipping from England. I allready have mine preordered from Amazon :)

Thanks, ElFantasma14!

Even though I was unimpressed with the clips I've heard on the official site, I'm too much of an EVITista not to buy it.

I'm pretty indifferent to it. The orchestrations actually seemed quite thin to me. I like Elena Roger as Eva, and if and when the show transfers to Broadway, I do hope she transfers with it (if only because I can't think of a better replacement). Her voice is generally strong (although yes, a bit pitchy at times), and she adds a personal flair to her songs. I think the fact she's a native of Argentina is a double-edged sword; it's neat, but it's a bit bizarre that she's the only one with the accent on the album.

Matt Rawle is the most lifeless, boring Che I've heard. There's nothing special about him; he's just... there. I like Quast, but considering Peron's limited role, he's no reason to buy the album. I'd say buy it only if you're an Evita completist.

siamese dream: Bob Gunton was the only one who sported a faux Spanish accent on the Premiere American Recording. Talk about annoying! At least, Elena's is genuine.

Well, I'm not saying that Quast and Rawle should adapt faux accents, just stating that I personally feel something seems a bit off when listening to a recording with only one character having a native accent. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but it's like a (pardon the comparison) Chess recording where only, say, Anatoly sports a Russian accent. It's just a bit strange and takes some getting used to.
