"I also happen to like Che a little more Mandy-flavored...but I just might be alone on that one!" ... No you are not, suchclumsytime re: Evita on Broadway? Mandy's Che sends chill's up my spine just thinking about it... to this day. He IS/was/always will be Che to me.

Julia Murney or perhaps Carolee Carmello... But I HOPE and WANT Elena Rogers to come over and perform the role if/when it crosses the Pond.

Neither the Broadway or London productions of EVITA, nor any of the national touring companies ever cast "names" in the title role. The show has always been the selling point.

Exactly, the beauty of Evita in my opinion is its great power to make a star out of its protagonist.
Let's just accept that Sutton Foster won't ever play Evita. Period.
Someone I'd have killed to see play the role is Marin Mazzie who probably ignited the stage with her energy. I was actually thinking of Sarah Uriarte Berry, do you think she'd be appropriate for the role?
I am pretty sure Elena Rogers will transfer though, unless something else comes up that she finds more relevant.
Brian Charles Rooney expressed great enthusiasm about playing Che, I believe he'd make a fantasic Che if the production were to transfer.

Does Elena Roger sing the high notes in A New Argentina and Rainbow High?

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

"Or change the name of the thread to "I won't take anyone but Sutton Foster as Eva!""

I agree. And perhaps a change of avatar?

Hasn't ALW's time come and gone as far as Broadway is concerned? I have to admit that "Evita" is not one of my favorites. I've seen it in NY and I've seen it a few times on tour thinking maybe I wasn't "getting it". I still didn't like it. This is one case where I liked the movie better than the stage show.

I have a suspicion they'll probably cast an AMERICAN IDOL reject as the Mistress.

If they cast William Hung as the "Mistress", it might be worth seeing.

"Well, from what I have seen and heard, it doesn't seem like the London production will be coming to New York. I hope they just make a whole new one for NYC. Someone must think Sutton!"

(To The Troll) This made me laugh. Who on EARTH would think that with a major new revival of a very well show in London, a new production will transfer to NYC, but not the one in London? ARGH! Thats just not how things work. And another thing- Sutton as Evita- aint gonna happen (in NYC at least.)

Anyone think this guys is more than a little trollish?

Having seen Elena Roger and Philip Quast in London I thought they were both wonderful (and just went to show how much Philip Quast can do with what is a truly supporting role). But I have a question about the American Equity rules governing appearances by overseas performers that perhaps Michael Bennett would be kind enough to answer. If an actor has international star status does he/she still have to be either (a) uniquely qualified to perform the role here; and/or (b) part of an exchange? Or does an international star have, in effect, a free pass to perform on Broadway? I've never understood at all how that worked (and have wondered since Hugh Jackman didn't make it over for Oklahoma).

Thanks.

Edited to fix spelling.

ARGH why do people seem to have such a problem with her name, its Elena Roger, not Rogers. How difficult is it?!

This thread has made it 3 pages and I'M the first person to mention the most obvious choice, Orfeh? There have been dozens of threads on this topic starting long before the London Evita even happened and it was obvious then and it's obvious now. She's physically perfect in every way and if you doubt me, just go watch the BLBC video feature on that "other website". If you have any doubts after that, then I don't know what to say.

Also, Elena Roger was an Argentinian "Annette" a role Orfeh created on Broadway.

Edited for spelling so no one has a meltdown.

Al would have a fit if he saw this thread. He's been saying Orfeh for years and he happens to be right. Bree, she is perfect but it seems Orfeh never gets the roles she's "perfect" for and I'm sick of trying to figure out why. I saw the youtube footage of Rogers and was far less than impressed.

Its Roger, not Rogers, or Rojers (who spells it that way anyway?!). How difficult is it?!

Geez, don't get your panties in a bunch, I fixed it. Are you related to her?
btw, it needs to be pluralized if I'm "referring" to her, no? Updated On: 8/13/06 at 10:05 AM

They would be smart, however, if it transfers to get some kind of name to be the alternate Eva. One of the problems, I know, with ticket sales in the UK is that the two performances played by Roger's standby are totally empty. Everyone wants to see the girl with the golden reviews...

Her reviews were not all glowing she did recieve a lot of luke warm reviews

The new production in london as i said issn't doing the buisness they had hoped for so i very much doubt this will transfer.ALW would have to have something really special on his hands to risk broadway again after his recent shows closed early on.
When i went to see evita a few weeks ago i was struck how great the costumes and set(if not basic)looked, but how little heart it had.

ruprecht, her last name shouldn't be plural because there is only one of her. If you were talking about her family (the Rogers), then yes. And it wouldn't be possessive either (i.e. Roger's) because then it would be redundant. Thus, you can write "I saw the y*****e footage of Roger" or "I saw Roger's y*****e footage."

Yes, I know Stagemanager2 but I was too busy trying to make Elena's biggest fan happy and forgot to put the comma in the proper place. I would imagine, I'm one of the ones you need not worry about when it comes to punctuation and spelling. I even know that definitely is not spelled definately and that a lot is two words, although I'm usually too lazy to care about the latter. But thanks for the lesson.
