yeah, but they lowered the score substantially for Madonna.
(Beautiful) Voice aside, I just can't see Sutton in a serious, strong female role like this.
But I absolutely adore her in everything she's in, don't get me wrong.

While she does start out as a 16 year-old, she's 33 by the end, and would have to be believable as both, no matter how much one uses their voice to facilitate this aging process.
This debate came up before with all the talk about Laura Michelle Kelly and MARY POPPINS, but applies here as well: actors appearing in the West End will not ever have first refusal on a production on Broadway unless they are already American citizens. Producers just don't have that kind of jurisdiction over American Equity.
Elena Rogers is being campaigned as "uniquely qualified" because she is actually the first Argentinian to play the role in a major production.

I'd like to see Sara Ramirez tackle Eva
I think she could do it amazingly if they ever did have a revival...
Sara Ramirez is about 40 pounds too heavy, and Sutton Foster is about 6 inches too tall. Both could probably sing the score fine, but neither is right for the actual role.
I'm not sure that ranking is completely accurate, West End. DIRTY DANCING is supposedly doing phenominal business and its way at the bottom. It's too bad that West End shows don't post their box office reports. That's the only way to know for sure.
I think EVITA potentially could be more succesful in New York than in London. If it were to close in the UK next year, they'd probably just recycle the set and costumes for Broadway.

I just can see Sutton. I guess it's just personal, but I can.
How about Che?
Peron?
Peron's Mistress? I'd love to see a name their.
Eden and Sherie would rock
I loved Eden in Brooklyn, but not Wicked. So, I say no to her.
I would like to see Tony Vincent as Che.
I dont think Eden or Sherie could dance it - if we are indeed talking about the Michael Grandage production which is the one coming over. This version is very dance heavy and one of the things that makes Elena Roger so amazing is her fantastic body and dance abilities.
They would be smart, however, if it transfers to get some kind of name to be the alternate Eva. One of the problems, I know, with ticket sales in the UK is that the two performances played by Roger's standby are totally empty. Everyone wants to see the girl with the golden reviews...
Gavin Creel is actually very similiar to Matt Rawle who is playing Che in London. Grandage cast the role very young and boyish.
It would be nice to have Philip Quast finally do a show on Broadway. He's won two Olivier Awards; I bet he would qualify for Equity's star status actually.
Allison Fischer would be great and appropriate as the Mistress.

Dont you think she is too young seeming?
I think that Elena Shaddow would be a phenominal mistress, but she will be in Showboat in London.
Jill Paice, of woman in white, could also be very nice.
Sidenote: I would have killed to see Felicia Finely as Eva....
GClef2, Elena already finished "Showboat" in London. She is currently playing Clara in the national tour of "The Light in the Piazza."
Norbert Leo Butz seemed like a good idea to me. But now I am thinking John Barrowman.
And- I really don't know if she could hit the notes but Ruthie Henshall just reaks Eva.
However, Sutton is my choice.
Sutton might be your choice, but you'll have to open your own regional theatre to see her play the part. It aint' gonna happen on Broadway. John Barrowman is too old. Che is literally 24 in this production.
EDIT: The Mistress is supposed to be 15 or 16 years old (same age as Eva at the beginning of the show). I think an 18 year old would be great.

Well, from what I have seen and heard, it doesn't seem like the London production will be coming to New York. I hope they just make a whole new one for NYC. Someone must think Sutton!
What about Rachel York as Eva? Andy Karl as Che?
"What do you think of Idina?"
I like Idina but, no.

Rachel York would be fabulous! She has played Eva before, in regional theater in California when she was quite young - even before City of Angels. She's a great dramatic actress who would sing the heck out of the role. Plus, she must be a solid dancer, since she's been cast in My One and Only coming up at Reprise! in LA. And I have no doubt that she could handle the age spectrum.
I can't see Sutton Foster at all in the role - too light. I could see Idina or Eden, though. Or how about Julia Murney? She has some fire to her.
If it does transfer to B'way, do you think they'll see the need to cast a familiar name? Or will they bet on the show having enough drawing power of its own?
Someone earlier mentioned casting Antonio Banderas. I think that's a great idea, but for Juan Peron. For Che, I'd love to see either David Burnham or Aaron Lazar. They both have such great voices, and wonderful youthful passion.

ALICE RIPLEY FOR EVA!
I don't think Sutton would work as Eva, I don't think she can hit those notes on "A New Argentina" and "Rainbow High". I'd like to see the actress from the London production do it if it transfered, if not Idina Menzel would be good.
Or change the name of the thread to "I won't take anyone but Sutton Foster as Eva!"
