It's too bad that she never did. Has she recorded any songs from the show on any albums?
It's opening on Broadway next season with Elena Roger. Done deal. And every woman who could ever have possibly played the role has already been suggested, so what's left to bump?
Well, speculation about her alternate, I suppose...

Yeah, when was this confirmed it is definitely coming to Broadway with Elena? And yeah, what theatre?
Elena Roger as Evita
Antonio Banderas as Che
Fall 2007/Spring 2008. Theatre undetermined but its going to be Nederlander House so probably the Palace, Richard Rodgers or Neil Simon - maybe the Marquis if DROWSY dries up by next year.
I really can't think of anyone else I'd want to see do it more than Orfeh.

Michael Bennett, do you have any guesses as to who will be Che? I can't imagine Rawle will transfer...
And I would love to see Evita in the Palace. I think it would be a perfect match for the show.

I'm pretty sure it won't be Matt Rawle. But if they cast the role with a similar type, the Gavin Creel and Manoel Felcianos of Broadway will surely all be in the running.
I wouldn't be surprised if Philip Quast came over though - if he wants to play Peron again: I'm not sure thats a role you'd really want to play for two solid years.
Caroline O'Connor.
She can sing, act and boy could she dance it.
Caroline O'Connor is too old now, but she would have been great ten years ago.
The New York papers reported over the summer that Andrew Lloyd Webber came over and looked specifically at the Neil Simon, so I'm guessing that is his first choice (although Hairspray seems to be doing decent business as of late.)
I cast my vote for Lea Michelle as The Mistress and possibly Lisa Brescia or Mandy Gonzalez as the Eva alternate?
MB, I would be happy to turn a blind eye.

Eh, I hope this revival doesn't go into the Neil Simon. That theatre needs some serious renovations first.
Raul Esparza for Che. I never got to see him when he played it on tour and would love to have the chance! (And I throw my vote to Julia, Alice, or Idina as Eva!) - Or, how about Alice as Eva with Emily as the alternate?!? (Okay, now I'm just getting cheezy!)
I am a bit doubtful if Philip Quast would come over with a transfer; besides the role being rather small, he hasn't seemed to actively pursue any roles in the US.
Someone said EVITA was confirmed for Broadway...well, I was told it is not confirmed. Here is what I was told to reply to people who email me (FYI I am the Global Forum Moderator for RUGs message board and do get emails from members on occassion thinking I work for RUG):
“Sorry to disappoint you but I have been told by RUG that there are no confirmed plans for future productions of Evita. However, situations change and you should come back and check the site regularly. If any information concerning this becomes available it will certainly be posted online.”
I also was hoping it would come to the US.

Carolyn
I guess Michael Bennett is a big, fat liar!
Before a press release, nothing is confirmed...it's just "confirmed."
I am not calling anyone a liar. As someone said until a press release comes out it is not confirmed. So it is considered a rumor. There was something going around about WIW going on tour in the UK and it was even posted in a theatre, but it did not happen. So they may have had plans, but they fell to the wayside. Just passing on what I have been told.
Yours,
Carolyn
