The plans didn't necessarily "fall to the wayside"; they just haven't been officially confirmed. I don't believe MB was trying to say that the plans had been publicly confirmed, so yes, it's technically still classified as a rumor, although I'm willing to trust him on this.
I am not calling anyone a liar.
And I'm not calling anyone defensive.
Oh, wait...
If it were publically confirmed, who would need to read the posts on BWW

"I think Sutton has the spunkiness, and I think she has the voice."
This is from the first page but I just had to say: Spunkiness is about the last word I would choose to describe Eva Peron.
The show WILL NOT be going to broadway and thats coming from the mouth of the people at EVITA in London.
The show will do a UK national tour kicking off at the end of the year and it will be using the west end set.
This would be a risky project to take to New York since its tanked here in the UK
But they have said UK TOUR and no to broadway
Well, er, regardless- >if< it should, by any chance, come to Broadway: Marla Schaffel, anyone? (Don't know of someone mentioned her already) I think she's played Evita before.
Aww, that make me sad. I really really wanted to see this production. Even if it had it flaws, they could have been corrected between the London closing and a Broadway Opening.
havent read through all the pages.
But someone asked about elena ... A) Great choice
b) if you want to hear her ... they have the london cast recording out.
ahhhh that sucks its not coming.
I was gonna take my grandfather to see it if it did.
This thread is now hypothetical... but going back to the idea of having the alternate Eva play the Mistress six shows a week, how about Anneliese Van Der Pol? She's already proven she can do Eva, if you've got the pipes to do Eva you can surely do the Mistress, she's suitably young, and she's not a massive name but would still have a certain draw to the nights where she was on as Eva.
But you CAN'T HAVE Philip Quast. I forbid it. It's bad enough he goes back to Australia every now and then. ;_; The West End is a somewhat less awesome place without him. ;_;
I would go see Anneliese in a heartbeat. But I wouldn't see this production if it had gone through and transfered with Elena. I don't like her.

I completely agree. I would love to see her as Eva.

Aaron Lazar for Che!
I am a huge Sutton Foster fan but she is not right for this role at all. I would love Anneliese as well and I would die and go to heaven if Aaron Lazar came into Che. Or Antonio Banderas in the role.

I've always hated the tradition of casting old white guys as Che. He's supposed to be a young Argentine firebrand! Well, granted, I guess when he's Che Guevara it's like his ghost, but I don't like him being Che Guevara to begin with. Anyway, I know that Aaron Lazar's white, but he could pull it off--he already pulled off being Italian.
As for Evita... Sutton doesn't have enough command. I think once upon a time, Emily Skinner would have done a great job as her (now she's too old.) I'd have to think about that...
Sutton Foster would not work as Eva. At all.
Why?
(I don't really care... just want a reason...)
She can't sing it. As has been said on this thread, Foster said she would love to play Elphaba, but she can't sing that high. Eva is harder to sing than Elphaba, so...
Plus, I just can't picture her as Eva. I like the idea of Anneliese Van Der Pol.
Sutton is too cold to capture Eva's vulnerability, I think. I also can't imagine someone with her more traditional old-style Broadway vocal quality in the role.
I for one am really not crazy about the Mistress being the alternate Eva. It can work, I'm sure, depending on the performer, but they're such different parts, and I'm very particular about the way "Another Suitcase" is sung.
