I'm excited about the new musicals, but at this point since many of us know nothing about them we are excited that so many well known and loved revivals are on the way.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

ATale of Two Cities is original. It isn't on Playbill's upcoming list but it will get there in the next few days... I am pumped about it more than anything else this season so there you go!

BlueWizard: "I think Matt_G meant, why aren't we excited about new musicals that aren't revivals."
Okay. My problem with the upcoming revivals is that I can't get excited over The Pajama Game or The Wiz.

smartpenguin, you're killin' me. The crazy cat woman from The Simpsoms would be PERFECT as Mrs. Lovett!! Or maybe Prinipal Skinner's mother!

I believe Jersey Boys is opening next year. It's an excellent show. It's more of a musical biography of Frankie Valli. The songs are presented more as concert versions as Frankie and the Four Seasons perform them on their climb to fame. So I guess it would be jukebox show, but the book is about Frankie and too a lesser extent the other three Four Seasons guys.
It was a big hit here in San Diego both with audiences and critics. I loved it, but the casting is crucial. David Norona played Frankie here, and he was phenomenal. Great voice and sexy as hell. (His resume says he played Ramon in Love, Valor, Compassion...would have liked to see that!) I've not been a big Frankie Valli fan, but this show was very enjoyable. I believe it's been discussed for fall of this year on Broadway.

On the play front, there is August Wilson's RADIO GOLF and an MTC revival of Lanford Wilson's Pulitzer-Prize winning TALLEY'S FOLLY, starring Cynthia Nixon.

I refuse to be excited about A little Night Music yet because it really seems to be in the 'rumor' stage, if anyone has any scoop on it, that would be great.
I agree about Glenn, but its another one I would respond to in the same way as Sweeny.
(smily face to show I am NOT kigging.

I'm pretty sure it's NOT a rumor. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Glenn has an exclusivity clause to play Desiree, so they are tailoring it around her schedule. That is too bad, since I can think of at least ten other actresses off the top of my head who would be better in the role.

Grrrr....Glenn Close. I've never forgiven her egocentric self casting in "South Pacific". Give her the old lady role in "ALNM" if she wants in the show so bad. As for Desiree, I've always imagined her as a beauty, perhaps heading a bit towards past her prime, but nonetheless one who still has men buzzin' around her. Ten years ago I would have seen Ann Margaret in the role. The only thing Glenn has in her favor is that the role doesn't require a great singer. Back in the eighties in L.A., Kim Novak had auditioned for the role. Now she would have been interesting. Annette Benning would make me happy in the role too.

Michele Pawk would be my choice for Desiree. She is in her mid-40s, which would be the ideal age for the character (let's not forget that Fredrika, Desiree's daughter, is 13). Juliet Stevenson was 46 when she did it 2 years ago at NYCO. I believe Glenn is nearing 60.

Glenn is too old and not right for the part, but if it takes her doing it to FINNALLY get ALNM revived then I will have to get behind her.

Whatever happened to reports of a "Little Mermaid" musical
So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

Lack of original musicals it seems...
I'm sure all these revivals and what not are fabulous, but I'm dissapointed to see the lack of new concepts.
Wedding Singer the musical? Wha??? Very interesting.
A Chorus Line and Sweeny Todd revival make me extremely happy, though. It will be an interesting season...
Still waiting for the West Side revival though. :)

I'm very curious too see how they're going to do Tarzan. It'll be interesting to see how they do the vine swinging scenes. I also can't wait to see the revival of A Chorus Line and Sweeney Todd
